5:30 am
I was sitting at the garden waiting for the day to begin. The street lights were still on and it was dark still. With a mug of Swiss Miss in hand, I was also listening to the classical music on my transistor radio before the station signs in. It was one of those no-commercial break stations featuring those lovely music and passages from the Bible with corresponding reflections….lovely.
The morning is waking up. Cars and motorcycles break the silence. I got my garden shears and startedย trimming the carabao grass. It has grown again in the whole month that we didn’t touch them. I stayed at the garden close to two hours and I didn’t even make a dent except trimming those so close to the concrete stepping stones.
Only a grass cutter is practical here because we have lots of stepping stonesย all the way from the garage up to the side of the house. I hope this afternoon won’t be too hot so I could garden again.
It’s a little tiring to stay in the garden when the sun is up.

Carabao? Is that the same as Kikuyu grass? ๐

Not familiar with Kikuyu Equinoxio, I don’t think they are the same.

You’re right Arlene, they’re different. Kikuyu grass comes form Kenya, where I knew it, and I was very surprised to see it here in Mexico. ๐ We do have some in our little garden. But I looked the scientific names, they’re different.
Saludos from Mexico on Sunday evening, while you are already Monday. ๐ (Always blows my mind that we can “talk” across date lines…
Take care

Thanks a lot Brian. Yes, different time zones but we can still communicate. Amazing isn’t it?

Imagine how a letter took in the 19th century between Mexico and the Philippines? 2-3 months? One way? ๐

That’s probably true or it might have taken a little bit longer. ๐๐

One of my ancestors went from France to India around 1794. He died there 20 years later, without ever coming back. I always wonder how long his letters back and worth to France would take. Maybe 6 months for a full exchange? ๐

Those were the days when communication was so hard I guess Brian. Nowadays, in split seconds you could get in touch.

Indeed, Arlene. Even across Time-lines. Have a great week.

I had to look up Swiss Miss, which is just called Drinking Chocolate here.
Well done with your gardening. It looks very neat. ๐
Best wishes, Pete.

Hi Arlene, Happy Monday. I liked the peek at your garden and your carabao grass. I’ve been cutting my grass to gather up fallen leaves for a couple of weeks. My husband had some repair surgery to his abdomen and hasn’t been able to do anything involving lifting or pushing.

Good morning, sorry to hear about your husband’s surgery. Sometimes I am not so inclined to cut and trim the grass but it has to be done. Have a happy and blessed Tuesday Kathy๐ต๐ฅ๐

From reading your posts over time I notice that the carabao grass takes a lot of work! I admire your persistence with it.

They are fast-growing I must admit but they are sturdy compared to other grass type๐๐๐

That makes sense since they are between your stepping stones.

What a lovely garden you have, Arlene! I can see all the care you put into it because your plants look super healthy! Keep up the good work and enjoy your early morning quiet in the garden. Do you have crickets chirping there?

Sad to say we don’t have them here but sparrows are regular visitors. I am half-way done trimming the grass. Two more mornings or afternoons of gardening. Thanks Sabine๐ต๐พ๐ด
