Oh my gosh. this is crazy. I saw the video of a flight passenger of a United Airlines plane being dragged down his seat and forcibly being taken out of the plane. United Airlines said they were overbooked that is why they have to lessen the number of passengers in that particular flight. He didn’t want to because he is a doctor and some passengers were waiting for him in his destination. Of course, the netizens were downright angry about what happened. Even the other passengers were shouting at the security force of the airline. Human dignity is clearly missing here. Gosh, the humiliation of being forcibly taken out of the airplane even if he has fully paid his air fare. What are the rules when it comes to overbooking? Shouldn’t it be voluntary on the part of the passengers? Why should the airline overbook in the first place? What kind of customer service do they have? Latest report said that the video has become viral and the stocks of United Airlines went down today. Is offloading allowed in other airline flights too? So far, here in our country according to some aviation officials interviewed earlier, that hasn’t happened yet and they don’t want something similar to happen. They ask volunteer passengers if they could transfer their flight on another one and give some compensation in the process.
Remember that virtual pet back in the 90’s called Tamagotchi? The original design is being reintroduced in the market by Bandai. Back when it was still new in the market, I bought two for Josef and me although it was a little expensive. I used to bring it at the office and checked on it regularly to feed and do all the things one has to do with a real pet. I had a good few months playing that digital toy.
The kids of the nineties have grown up. and Tamagotchi was replaced by other virtual toys in the market. I wonder if it would be as popular as it was back then. I remember a priest friend who asked me before what good it would bring to play with one. I just said for relaxation. Oh, I guess I would still buy one when it comes in the market.
It’s Holy Wednesday and some Christians call it Spy Wednesday. It was this time when Judas betrayed Jesus with thirty pieces of silver. There is a procession here in our parish this afternoon. Have a blessed week.
A shocking incident. I saw the video in the news last night. He was bleeding and badly hurt!

He is an Asian or are they biased with Asian travelers?

I guess there is a strong resentment towards Asians!

The policy of overbooking is usual with many airlines. They generally give free tickets or financial compensation to those willing to wait for another flight. It should be stopped, but that would require every airline to agree.
I don’t think the removal of that man was racially motivated. It was probably just that he was the most vocal and disruptive. Shocking indeed, but the airline will suffer, when passengers refuse to fly with them as a result.
Best wishes, Pete.

I agree with you Pete, the airline will suffer. I read in some comments at FB that he is already 69 years old. Even if he is vocal about it, they should have refused him to board in the first place.

No human being should be treated in this manner regardless of nationality. I sure hope this is not the road to make America great again. Anyone can be next another time or place.

Some people say it is not a matter of customer service but more on capitalism. I wonder if they know the extent of the damage done to the airline, passengers not booking with them etc.

It would have been so rewarding if all the passengers on that plane in protest unboarded the plane to show solidarity against brutality , let the plane fly with their crew members only. It would have been a great lawsuit for trauma especially if children witnessed this and the harm psychologically.

The passenger was hurt in the process. I wonder if the other passengers thought of that. Reports say, he was one of the four chosen at random.

The airline did not follow proper procedure. It should have been providing the passenger in writing policy and compensation before removal from the plane(Not dragged out the plane). That is the law.

I see. Well, he could sue the airlines.

I am sure he will.

That video was awful and forcibly removing a paid customer was completely unnecessary and should be illegal. If the airline needed a seat, they could have found one by offering a generous incentive (someone would eventually take an offer that keeps going up – I would!). The airlines overbook and it should be their financial risk.

Really, it was Diana. The name of the doctor is David Dao. he was left dazed and bloody after that incident. I take it no one volunteered to be bumped off the plane.

3 people took the incentives but the airline needed a fourth. They should have just raised the incentive until they found someone. This was outrageous.

I am glad to know the real name is Spy Wednesday. My neighbor told me it was Hide Wednesday which didn’t make much sense!

Surprisingly, I didn’t think I’d get phased by the incident but when I was booking a flight to LA for next month, one of the option was United. I skipped it! No way in hell do I want to be treated like that.

I agree the airline did not follow procedure. It is voluntary as far as I know. The last time I traveled, a passenger needed on our flight because they missed their connecting flight and had to be on a flight asap I am thinking it was an emergency. We almost gave up our seats but we were meeting a ship to go on a cruise, and the flight they would put us on took us to another Hawaiian island and they could not guarantee us a flight to the island where our ship was waiting in a reasonable time. They offered us a voucher for use another flight and for food while we waited, in addition we would be bumped up to first class. It was announced – we asked about it and turned it down, that was the end of it. Someone did come forth and was able to help the stranded couple.
What happened since then? Are people so rude and obnoxious that common courtesy has gone out the window? To the person who asked if it was because he is Asian – no, it is because of our monopolies here in America – where one company dominants the market and they can do whatever they want. Well maybe now they know we will not take it anymore and it is about time they treat their customers with respect and to stop over booking and make better arrangements for their employees. It is just another example of the mighty dollar over service.

Not a good customer service they are showing Patty. Their priorities are maybe not the passengers at all.
