When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone”
This song has been running in my head since last night. I was reading The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon but this kept intruding.
It was Frank Sinatra who originally sang it, recorded it back in 1945. That long? Wow! I actually love the lyrics. It is not just about walking with friends and family but there is someone up there who’ll never let you walk alone.
That song was made popular here by Gerry and The Pacemakers in 1963. It soon became the ‘anthem’ of Liverpool Football Club, and the title is featured over their gates in metalwork.
