Tropical storm Maring brought havoc to Central and Southern Luzon and now on its way out of the country. It had a maximum sustained winds of 75 km/hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/hour. Metro Manila was not spared of flash floods and heavy rains.
I watched the news the whole day yesterday and was wary of the heavy rains. I am afraid of flash floods but we were luckier than those places which experienced rising flood waters that entered their homes and caused tremendous traffic jams. One subdivision in our town was submerged in water yesterday.
Our country experiences an average of 15 to 18 typhoons every year with those coming in December or thereabouts the strongest. Since typhoon Ondoy back in September 2009, I got so afraid of typhoons, tropical storms and monsoon rains. We had the house renovated back then because most of our cabinets were destroyed and some of our furniture and appliances got flooded. I will always remember that helpless feeling, the rising waters up to my neck when we left the house to seek refuge from our neighbor’s house.
I see the sun shining again. Good day everyone.
Glad you are okay. We just experienced the first tropical storm ever here. I live in the mountains of north Georgia, nowhere near the coast, but the remnants Hurricane Irma came through last night.

Thank you. Yes, we’re okay, but so many people are without electricity, food and water. It’s so sad.

We had lots of rain from Hurricane Irma, too. There was no flooding in our area that I know of. It’s understandable that typhoons would strike terror in your heart after what you went through, Arlene. I’m glad you didn’t have flooding this time at your home.

I really thanked God for that Anne but there were cases of landslides and severe flooding in some areas. There were those living near riverbanks who lost their homes. It is hard to start all over again. September is the rainiest month so far.

We’re getting them here in the US also. I’m sure you’ve heard of it from the news. But I hope you guys are okay.

I haven’t experienced flooding in the house yet because I’ve always lived in a higher area, but I almost did with Ondoy. The flood was rising and was just 4 houses away then!

That’s good to know Bougainvillea, living in a higher place. Metro Manila I think is already saturated.

Take care all, our rain hasn’t come yet but we had hail for a day in the heat of August. Some of us will need more resilient homes as the climate changes and let’s hope some of the aid will help folk do this.

We are never sure of what the climate brings. It is getting more destructive. Thanks a lot, take care too.
