You know that feeling of being helpless because you can’t stop the typhoon from reaching your shores. I am tuned in to the radio for the hourly updates and at the same time following PAGASA’s updates online. Typhoon Lawin has intensified into a super typhoon as it moves closer to Cagayan and Isabela which are now under typhoon signal #5.
Strength: Maximum sustained winds of up to 225 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 315 kph.
Forecast Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 24 kph.
Metro Manila is under signal #1. I am praying that it would weaken somehow during landfall. Our friends and family in the Northern part of the country have suffered enough. I am so worried how they will cope once the typhoon lands in their place. Every time there is a typhoon coming (even if it will not directly affect our place), I am reminded of typhoon Ondoy back in September 2009. It always gives me the jitters. Imagine your house submerged up to your neck and you have to renovate and replace almost all of the furnitures and appliances which were destroyed by the flood. Imagine your books ( a collection that started during your college years) submerged in water and much as you want to save them, the pages have glued together. Three yearbooks (mine, Josef’s and Nissa’s) completely destroyed. I cried seeing those because they were our only reminders of our university days in UST. Imagine your worry that your scheduled visit to your oncologist and chemo treatment won’t push through because your car was also submerged in flood waters. I can still remember it all vividly.
You learn your lesson and you learn it well but when natural calamities are your enemies, you can only cling to God and pray hard. I am praying hard that super typhoon Lawin would not be that strong when it hits land. Oh please, move a little faster and get out of our way.
Do you know that Lawin is a Tagalog term for the bird hawk?
I really hope that everyone escapes the ravages of this typhoon, Arlene. My thoughts are with you.
Best wishes, Pete.

I really hope the damage will be minimal Arlene..
please be safe dearest friend…
I know the fear and heartbreak of losing everything with natural disasters like that typhoon..
But.. as long as you are left behind to be able to rebuild.. then.. we are happy 😊..
Praying for your safety dear friend

Thank you Nita. I don’t know how to put it, are we lucky that we are just under typhoon signal No.1?
Praying still for the safety of everyone. Thank you too for your prayers.

Sana nga malusaw na siya sa karagatan. Kawawa talaga yung mga tatamaan. Imagine an 800 km radius? That’s scary and too big an area.

The mere mention of Category 5 makes me imagine equally scary things. And what with our kababayans not following forced evacuation rules? Clearly, they have not heard the news or lack insight on the possibility of disaster waiting to happen, God forbid. Di ba natuto ang buong bansa sa Yolanda?

Mahirap nga ang rescue pag andun na yung malakas na hangin at ulan. Most AM radio stations are open giving updates from those places affected by the super typhoon. Grabe, hindi ako makatulog. I could hear the sound of rain and howling winds. Kaya nga PAGASA changed the category of typhoons, how strong they are because of typhoon Yolanda. On second thoughts though, you can’t blame them because they want to protect their properties and their livelihood.

Hope everything’s okay at your end now. I’ve seen and read some reports, somehow no significant casualties. I really wish that’s the last one for this year.

We were spared from rains and winds. Akala ko nga uulanin din ang Metro Manila, how about you Claire?
I heard the morning report from PAGASA, they’ll be probably five more weather disturbances until the end of the year. I hope they won’t be as strong as Lawin.
Take care, thank you for all your comments 🙂

We had strong winds din since yesterday morning. Rain went by fast last night. Ngayon still gloomy pero may araw na. Might have scattered rainshowers par in this afternoon. Hopefully the rest will come peacefully and bring cool breeze nlg for the holidays. Glad to know you’re okay in Manila.

I am still waiting for updates on those areas that were heavily affected. Just imagine, binuhos daw ng isang gabi yung ulan ng isang buwan. Footages are coming in slow, maybe because some roads are still inaccessible.

So far, so good. We didn’t have rains here in Metro Manila last night but this morning it is windy. I am more concerned about those affected by the super typhoon. It brought so much rain and gusty winds when it landed last night at 11pm. Maybe in a few hours, we could see the aftermath it brought to the country.
Thanks again Samantha. In Tagalog we say”Salamat” 🙂

Answered prayers. We were spared from the wrath of the typhoon. Metro Manila didn’t have those strong winds and heavy rain that we expected. Last night was so quiet here, thank God.
Thank you for praying for us, I appreciate it very much.

God is good. How’s Ben by the way? I do remember your other blog.

Yes, God is good. Thank you for asking about Ben. He is doing great! We just spent two days with him and his parents. He is such a cute, intelligent, loving little guy. I had so much fun with him. His soccer team just played their last match yesterday, and we were very glad to be able to be there. (The drive to his house takes between 2 and 3 hours, depending on traffic through the mountains.)

We were watching the news last night and my heart cries out to those who lost their homes and their livelihood. It may take a while before they could get over this destruction. I really hope the government and the NGOs would help them start all over again.thanks Donna for the visit.
