And here I thought of welcoming April with a bang but it’s not to be. I was just not that inspired to write because there are other priorities. I do remember the times when saying goodbye to a previous month and welcoming a new one were my regular posts. March is gone too soon, April though is one of my favorite months. Summer is here to stay. Despite the heat, summer is something I look forward to. I love all fruits in season during summer. Just the other day, I saw star apples in one of the fruit stands here in our place but since we were on our way to do some groceries, buying some would have to wait.
It’s barely a month before Election day and it is so disappointing to see postings on Facebook with accompanying memes. Some people are out to do (and been doing it for the past several months) demolition jobs on worthy candidates, doing dirty tricks while promoting candidates of their own. Have we become a nation of insensitive people? Have we become a nation of people who harbor hatred just because we are free to air what we feel? Social media have done a good job of this, such petty political squabbles bringing all their dirt in the open. I dread to think that in a month we may have a president who is believed to be corrupt and amassed wealth illegally, or a president who has previously denounced her allegiance to the Philippines and came back with her American family in tow, or a president who is a loud mouth and who cursed the Pope and is so proud now that he has received a letter from the Vatican stating that they appreciate his apology. It is a bit scary how he show respect for women and how he values life.
It pains me to see the so obvious divisiveness in all of us. It pains me that every election time, we have to go through the motion of destroying each other just because of politics. Who to vote for is a favorite topic now on the dining table. I am still looking forward to the presidential and vice-presidential debates lined up this month and I am praying that the electorate would be discerning enough to choose the best, one who will put the nation on the right path to progress, one who would put in mind that he will be there to serve the Filipino people and not his own selfish needs. We are so blessed and lucky that here in our town, the government is very visible. You can approach our town mayor even through texts and one good thing is he listens and responds to our complaints. We are lucky that so many worthy projects were done the last three years for the town’s improvement.
I pray for a clean and honest election. Fight for your right and vote!
It is a worrying time in politics. Glad that at least in your corner things are settled.

One can’t stop worrying about the outcome of the national election. A president will rule for 6 years, what if they choose someone who is seemingly unfit to become one?
Thanks Miriam!

It is nice to read about someone who is genuinely concerned about the politics and issues in their own country. Much of Europe seems to be in an apathetic state, with so many similar parties, and faceless politicians in suits. I hope that you get the outcome you hope for, Arlene.
Best wishes, Pete.

I hate writing political blogs Pete. Sometimes though, the tiger within shows itself and growl. Many vote for someone because of popularity and not because he is capable to lead the country. They respond to media stimulus in their decisions who to vote for. It is so frustrating 😦

Please pray for our country. We need to choose someone who truly cares, yung hindi pagpapayaman lang ang aatupagin. We’ve had enough of crook and corrupt people in the government.

Hi Arlene, thank you so much for your string of likes and following Beauty Along the Road.
I can very much relate to your sentiments about politics as we are having a very ugly time here in the US leading up to the November elections as well. Where are you located? From the language you used in one of your comments, I am thinking Indonesia?

Hi! Can you believe na ikaw yung first pinoy blogger na nabasa ko. Tsk, newbie kasi. And naabutan ka rin pala ng epedemya ng eleksyon.. Haha it’s alarming really.

Yes, and I am engrossed reading the facts, not the memes which bring headaches when I see them on FB.
Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting too 🙂

No big deal.. What so funny with the election and our government is that it really isn’t far from the showbiz industry. Lahat pa showbiz sumagot. Tsk

You’re right, that is why they hate Mar because he is the serious one. Ang mas nakakatawa yung, showbiz na showbiz na sagot nung isa, itutuloy ang legacy ng tatay niya. Teka, teka ano ba nagawa ni FPJ sa Pilipinas?

Well we can’t really tell kung sino talaga yung seryoso sa serbisyo.. Alam mo po yun… Nakakawalang bilib when it comes to their dedication, seems like their making public service as business! As in Business!

Politics is business for a lot of them, not just the candidates for the higher post but down to the barangay level. Hawak ni ganito, hawak ni ganun, so those who contribute big time to their kitty is their boss. It’s a reality in Philippine politics but if we won’t vote, tayo ang lugi.

Sad fact. Once may nabasa po ako saying na(not exact words) there is no such a government they just want to be in a position where they can make their illegal actions as a legal one. Nakakalungkot lang po talaga na halos ngayon pera pera na lang, hindi lang din sa pulitika.

It’s the same the world over but if we let ourselves be influenced too much by other people, nothing good would come out of it.

A month more to go and I still haven’t made up my mind. I am torn between casting my vote hence end up voting for the wrong candidate or spend my time elsewhere doing nothing. It is hard to choose when you can’t find a decent candidate to whom you will entrust the country’s future. Ang hirap mamili kung walang magandang mapagpipilian po. 😦

Hi Maricel, nice to see you here. Most of my friends are for Mar-Leni. Consider this POV. He summarized what I’ve long wanted to say except for me, it was Mar from the start. https://web.facebook.com/notes/michael-fua/from-closet-to-case-closed-i-cant-fight-this-feeling-anymar/10153506589036526

It was a nice read po but you know I had doubts about Mar’s capability to be honest, as much as all the other presidential candidates. I hope you don’t mind this po. It is still a struggle for me to decide which candidate will I entrust my vote. Siguro prayers nalang din for the Holy Spirit to guide me. Can only hope for the best.

Choosing the least evil you mean? That should not be our attitude towards choosing one. “Conscience vote” nga raw dapat eh, not because this or that candidate holds the advantage over other candidates. We need to discern, pray then decide. Don’t be swayed by false promises from sweet-talking candidates. I remember the last national election on 2010. I voted for Richard Gordon, Josef went for Gibo. None
of us voted for Pres. Noy. He got more than 41% of the total votes.
You’re right, let us hope for the best.

I am really the type that cannot be swayed easily. Sometimes I find it quite hard to trust people, especially the ones who claimed to lead the nation out of the mire we have been in. Mabuti pa nga noon, even at the start, I knew sino iboboto ko. I also voted for Gibo. Ngayon wala pa talaga akong napipili.
