I don’t normally blog about daily news and happenings here in our country except for occasional posts on some politicians that I just can’t tolerate and the 42 days that I watched the daily hearings with mom when our former Chief Justice Renato Corona was impeached. I did a daily post on that until the last day. This morning, I was listening to the AM news and this caught my attention. A Metro Manila Development Authority traffic constable was assaulted by a guy driving a Ghibli Maserati. The traffic enforcer accosted the driver when he was trying to do a left-turn in one of the major streets in Quezon City. The motorist then went straight ahead but made a U-turn, went to the traffic enforcer’s post, and gave him the dirty finger at the same time snatching his cellphone and punching him on the nose three times while the car was cruising on auto pilot. He held him by his uniform and managed to drag him at least 10 meters from his post. The enforcer also recalled that the driver removed his grey-blue shirt and threw it at him so he could wipe his bloodied face.
Does having a multi-million car in your possession gives you the right to disobey traffic rules and ignore a man in uniform? Does being rich makes you untouchable that you can do all you want when you are out on the streets? MMDA Chairman Tolentino was fuming mad when he learned about this and with the help of the dealer of Maserati cars here in Metro Manila, they were able to trace the name of the car owner/motorist. According to reports, there are only two buyers/owners of such luxury sports cars so late this afternoon, they were able to zero in on the man. Come to think of it, his car doesn’t even have a car plate number. There were several instances before very similar to this one, some of them even taking out their guns to instill fear on the hapless traffic enforcers.
Where is this world coming to? I hate to think that when money speaks (and I include our corrupt politicians here), good manners and values go to the dogs. I am not generalizing since there are more moneyed individuals who help our economy grow. I am referring to those who lose their values when they display what money can do for them. They equate money with power. What they don’t know is, they could not bring it to their graves.
Unfortunately Arlene, some rich people do think that they are above the law, and can behave in any way they see fit. This is the same all over the world. The law has to make sure that they come down on these offenders harshly, as the sentences handed out for such crimes are often laughable.
Best wishes from England, Pete.

Got a headache reading the reactions of the netizens yesterday. Short of crucifying him, everyone says, they should mete a punishment that he deserves. We have lots of laws on road safety, on traffic violations etc. but the sad thing is they have no teeth.

I read that this morning but Enquirer online didn’t say they caught the man. It is too bad that it seems like we are showing the world the lawlessness of the country although it is not true but the bad things always stands out. Unfortunately it is the “haves” that have lost their humility, taking advantage of the “have-nots”. What a shame.

You are so right Lou. Such arrogance! It is a glaring realization that when one has money, it makes one temporarily think of himself that he is above the law. It is not money that is evil, it is the way they use it.

Sadly, those with the most do not see that they are the most in need until it is far too late. When you have everything, why would you think that you need God? So as they zip around in overpriced vehicles, wearing clothes that cost a small fortune,,,, and enough jewelry to feed a nation for a year then you get the idea that you are untouchable by any law whether it is man’s or God’s. Of course, the highest price will be paid when they ignore the latter. They had better have their fun here on this Earth because that is all they will ever get.
We have such callous, immature, “man-children” here as well and the corruption runs pervasively deep. It is very difficult to stomach the injustices in this world, which appear to be worsening as children are no longer brought up to respect their elders or the powers that be let alone being taught manners. Of course, I am generalizing but I have worked in the child protective system here and the parenting really is poor. That little creep who hurt the officer should be incarcerated for a long time but his money will buy him out of justice even when he is identified. I understand your frustration and share it with you.

Very well said Tina. I’ve missed your wonderful comments like these. I remember what my mom used to tell us before when we see news on tv, “money is not evil itself but what is wrong is how they use it in their evil doings”. I read from the news that the man involved was begging for understanding about what happened because according to him, his family is already suffering from all the criticisms being hurled at him by angry netizens but he never thought of that before venting to that road rage. And you’re right, money talks, and it’s sad!

yes Arlene, I have seen money tear families apart and when it is gone then what is left? You are alone. Now, I see it as a blessing that I never managed to gain wealth in my life. Kindness, compassion, and generosity are far greater in worth that mere silver and gold. I sometimes ponder what I would do with great wealth. I know what I think I would do and what I would like to do but I wonder if having great wealth would taint my spirit? Yet, I do not think I will have that challenge to face! Hahahaha. I am content in my life and I consider myself the wealthiest woman in all of creation for those who touch my heart seem to be growing in number especially since I found WP.
Money is not evil, technology is not evil, progress is not evil. It is what human beings do with these things that opens the door wide to evil. It is good that we have the sense to slam that door shut firmly and bolt it! Have a wonderful day dear Arlene!

When we think of it, it all boils down to what we value most in life, materials things which could be just temporary or being happy because we have the right attitude and values and we can smile and face everyone with a straight face. I agree, kindness, compassion, generosity, humility and such are more important and valuable than gold.
Thanks again for your uplifting share. May you always be blessed!
