This afternoon I went to the bank to withdraw my budget for this month then dropped by the Kadiwa near the church to buy something for breakfast including salted eggs. Then I went to Mercury Drug to buy my maintenance medicine.

On my way home, I had a special tricycle trip. When I said Midtown, the driver repeated it. I  was about to tell him our street and he just smiled, there was something familiar about his face. When I alighted infront of our gate he asked in the vernacular still smiling, natatandaan mo pa ba ako? That means do I still remember him? Really a  familiar face but I could not exactly remember where I’ve seen him. Did he work for us before during our house construction? Were there occasions that we actually met? I just told him, oo naman meaning I do but for the life of me, I was trying to recall where we have met before. Until now it is still a puzzle when and where I’ve met him. Senior moments.

Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.

I do remember my very first day in high school at the UST Education High School. I graduated from grade school in our province so practically I was a probinsiyana. Although we used to spend summer break with Dad in Metro Manila, it is somehow different when you’ll be residing permanently there.

The high school years. Although we had flag ceremony every  morning in grade school, in UST, we prayed the Morning Offering after it. We had a Regent  aside from the school principal. I also learned to pray the rosary during my first year in UST.

When I was a freshman in high school, I experienced being too shy to get acquainted with my classmates. We were made to introduce ourselves in every subject during the first day. Most of my classmates graduated in well-known grade school. Me? They didn’t even know where Mabini Central School was. It took me a while to adjust mingling with them. After four years in the university, I was already well adjusted to tackle college life. Stayed in UST for nine years – four years in high school, one year taking up Secretarial Science and four years in BSC Economics.

Those were the days. I still get in touch with my high school buddies (we were all girls). The boys belonged to the afternoon session while we had classes in the morning.

One time  while I was buying food infront of the UST Hospital when Nissa was confined there, I saw this girl wearing the same school uniform since our time, light brown blouse with blue collar piping  and pleated skirt. I spent my time reminiscing while waiting for the food I ordered.

The high school years, something worth-remembering.
