There is a cold breeze blowing

Making the leaves dance

Perfect time to stay in the garden

While you sip that hot cup of coffee.

The doggies roam around

Some are  waiting for belly rub

Salt and light are the metaphors used by Jesus in today’s Gospel.   I love how the two words are intertwined – the earth is dark because of our sins and our lives  seem bland because there is no salt in it.  We are included in the mission that Jesus gives us, to proclaim and to announce His Kingship everywhere and to invite people to enter into His Kingdom.  Being a Christian is not just through words, we must make good use of ourselves, our talents, we give taste to whatever we do in life. Christian life is how you relate to people.  Only when we follow Christ’s teaching and examples that we will see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The gospel this Sunday is about how salt and light are important in our well-being as Christians. Wrote the above reflection back in 2011 based on the gospel. 

Do you know that salt is a sacramental in the Catholic Church? Yes, blessed salt is a recognized and powerful sacramental in the Catholic Church, used for spiritual protection, purification, and to ward off evil. It is not a sacrament (which confer grace), but a sacred sign that prepares individuals to receive grace, similar to holy water.  When we transferred here in our new house back in 1995, we were told to bring salt and sprinkle it on the doorstep  front and back and some outside our windows too. It was then I realized how important salt is in our lives.
