Fifty or so years ago.

Three full shoeboxes of letters from friends.

Hundreds of letters since then.

Most envelopes are yellowed now.

I spent the early morning getting reacquainted  with my youth. Some during my high school years and mostly during my college life, a few when I got married. Most of those letter writers are still my friends until now although I no longer know where the others are. I have a colleague/friend during my three years of stay at the UST  library  who I consider my older sister. She has more than a box full of letters since we used to write each other almost every day. She’s now living in Canada. Got some three Japanese pen friends back then, these girls introduced me to how student life was in Japan. There was this guy who wrote such inspiring and well-worded letters from Aparri, Cagayan. He was a neighbour of one of my colleagues at the library before. There were classmates who got in touch during summer break and when we all graduated🎓.

Maybe, the practice of exchanging notes/news, personal updates and college life prepared me to the most wonderful hobby I have right now….blogging.

Is letter-writing a lost art? I still get excited when I receive a snail mail. The thought of opening a missive from a friend…priceless!

Imagine, ordinary mails back then cost 10 and 30 cents. Special delivery was 60 cents.
