The first two days of November are legal holidays in our neck of the woods to celebrate All Saints Day today and All Souls Day tomorrow.
Since I can remember, we usually offer masses for our dead relatives and friends. Back in the province, a few days before All Souls Day, mom would prepare sweets (kakanin).
We would invite our relatives and friends to pray the rosary with us with the special intentions for the repose of the souls of our dead relatives. After the prayers, we would distribute the food along with hot cups of rice coffee. On All Souls Day, we would go to Campo Santo to visit our loved ones who passed early on. We would light candles at their gravesite and wait for them to melt before we go home. When there are priests around the Campo Santo, we usually have them blessed.
Nowadays, my sister-in-law takes care of lighting candles for our beloved dead in the province but we still offer mass here for their repose. I am planning to make pancit as offering and pray the rosary later with special mention of all their names in each decade. On All Souls Day, I light candles infront of our door. It’s tradition and I am still observing it.
