I am enjoying reading the book given by Nissa on my birthday. There is a personal message from the authors, Fr. Kali and Fr. Regie. As I have said before in my other blog posts, both of them are Nate’s friends. They have watched  him grow from a toddler to a young man.

Fr. Regie is presently the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Manila. He also serves as the Mission Station Priest of the Mary  Mother of Hope Chapel in Landmark, Makati and the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Chapel in SM, Makati.  Fr. Kali is currently  pursuing his Licentiate in the Cultural Heritage of the Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

The book is a compilation of their inspiring and lovely homilies when they were both assigned in Manila Cathedral  as  Rector and Vice-Rector.

I love these quotes from the book:

Jesus touches us in so many ways. Let’s share that touch with others. See to it that every day you impact even one life. Make someone happy or feel better. Do it with the touch of Jesus.

He is greater than any victory.

Greater than any disappointment.

Greater than any defeat.

Greater than  any work that we could have done.

We entrust everything to the Father – including the setbacks – because He is greater than all that. For even in disappointments  Jesus is at work, giving us small victories in life.

Today is the feast of the Christ child Sto. Niño. A priest in his homily this morning called the Philippines, Sto. Niño country. There are so many places here where festivals are held and celebrated to give reverence to the Child Jesus. Such famous and well -known festivals are the Sinulog in Cebu, Dinagyang in Iloilo, Ati-atihan in Aklan and the Lakbayaw festival in Tondo, Manila. Nissa invited me to attend their fiesta in Tondo but I am afraid to go out alone. Josef and Jovy spent the night at the latter’s grandma’s house and they are not yet home. Besides, I am not so fond of the traffic going home. Every street there is busy around this time.

It is also our town fiesta in the province. Our church is called Sto. Niño Parish. For more than a week now, they have several activities like the Sto. Niño exhibit, Patandag River mass (patandag is a Pangasinan word which means to take a look), family day, Kasalan at Binyagan (marriages and confirmations) sa Parokya. There is also a dance showdown participated by different schools in the town. There are parades and street dancing but what the people always look forward to especially our townmates vacationing from abroad is the Balikbayan Night where there is public dancing at the plaza. Last night, the municipal government sponsored a free concert by a famous rock band.

The feast of Sto. Niño is celebrated every third Sunday of January.
