This is fun. Twinings tea in all five flavors. Aside from the Wild Berry and Apple, Cinnamon & Raisin I ordered before, Jovy ordered three more boxes in flavors of Strawberry & Mango, Lemon & Ginger And Four Red Fruits. I’ve tasted Strawberry & Mango before and I loved it.

I thought I was the only tea drinker in the family but I was surprised that Jovy and Josef regularly drink it too lately. He said he is not giving up on coffee but he could drink tea in successive mugs. Ah, the influence of a mum, haha! He usually starts work at 4am until 1pm every day and he needs a morning fix. It is an acquired taste. I love lemon and ginger when I feel I have a sore throat. There is nothing better though than our good old kalamansi. I extracted almost a kilo of it, added sugar and put it in the ref. All you need is either hot or cold water.

This morning, one of our neighbors (she’s about six houses away from us but I don’t even know her name) passed by. I was at the garden uprooting weeds and she stopped outside and told me I must really love gardening. My plants are not so common and ordinary. I remember when we had it landscaped back in 2010, the landscaper asked me if I don’t mind having a green garden, meaning some of the plants he planted don’t actually bear flowers but they are all green. I said yes but over the years I added some in pots and some of them are flowering plants too. Back to my short conversation with our neighbor, she noticed that some of our kalamansi fruits at the top of the two trees have ripened. Yes, I could not reach them even if I use our small ladder but I gave her some fruits. She was so happy. When she saw one of my flowering plants, she again asked if it was easy to grow it. I was about to prune it. It was my Scarlet Bush. I only learned of its name too a couple of months ago. I gave her three stems. Haha, my social life is picking up.

Hmm… Shakey’s Angus Steakhouse Pizza for snack. These two (Jovy and Josef) are spoiling Mom and me. It is so costly for just an afternoon snack. I love it though because it is not oily and has crunchy potato strings and sliced mushrooms on top. Yum!

And the rain is about to fall. It is so dark outside. Happy midweek friends! Strawberry & Mango tea, anyone?

For the first time, I prepared two cups of the brew early this morning. I was awake at 5am and was at the garden before 6am. I prepared a cup with just a little sugar to go with it. I put it in a small foot  stool near where I was weeding. Two of our naughty cats played around and the plastic stool toppled on the grass.  Oh my!

I have to go back in the kitchen to prepare another cup and this time, I put it on top of our concrete garden table covered by a glass coaster. I don’t drink coffee every day except when I am in the garden this early and there is a morning breeze that plays with the leaves in the garden making the dry ones fall to the ground. Every day I have to sweep the yard. We have a small compost pit at the farthest corner of the garden and all the leaves that I gather are placed there to rot.  This soil mix is one of the best to use when you are replanting.

Speaking of coffee, mom can’t get by without her early morning fix. Sometimes she doesn’t even eat breakfast as long as she has coffee prepared.  We used to let her prepare her own but in the last few months, either the coffee is too much, the sugar too little and she ends up with an unpalatable cup. So what Josef suggested was for us to buy her three-in-one sachets complete with sugar, cream and of course coffee. These instant coffee packets are flavored in caramel. mocha, hazelnut, brown coffee etc. They come in different brands. Problem solved. All you need is to pour hot water and voila, it’s done.

Are you a coffee drinker or a tea lover? I am one of both. I’ve tried turmeric tea yesterday. They say it is good to boost immunity.

It’s cold.

I was hoping I will be able to finish trimming the carabao grass this morning but the garden  is wet from the rain. It rained so early  and according to news report, it is because of ITCZ (Inter Tropical  Convergence Zone). It would probably drizzle the whole day, that kind which we call tigatik or ambon in Tagalog. It’s that kind of weather that makes you long to go back to bed or either stay in a corner and read.  I just ate a cup of Banana and Honey instant oatmeal.  So lazy to cook breakfast. Or maybe, it the perfect time to drink that cup of instant coffee I’ve longed for all week.

Are you a tea or coffee drinker?

How many times have you heard this frequently asked question, “tea or coffee?”, be it in some obscure diners or  some  extravagant restaurants in town. During the past few years, many coffee shops have sprouted like mushrooms in the metropolis which only proves that there is money in coffee. Coffee drinking is synonymous to bonding with friends, closing deals with business associates and simply relaxing in the comfort of your  home while watching a good TV program or curled up in a corner reading your favorite book.

I used to be a coffee drinker, but now I have limited my coffee intake for just once  or twice a week, or when I feel I have the craving for caffeine early in the morning. Just can’t resist the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or a cup of the instant variety. Those of us who drink coffee know about caffeine and its effects. Though tea and hot chocolate have caffeine too, apparently, it is lesser. They say that three cups of coffee is considered an average or moderate dose, but what about the add-on  like cream, sugar and other kinds of sweetener put in a cup to make it more flavorful? There are various creamer mixes like Bavarian mint, Cinnamon spice, Irish cream, Hazel nut, mocha, Amaretto and other flavored creamers. And there are many ways of brewing coffee. Drip coffee makers have a fairly simple, quick and easy way to prepare a cup. Coffee grounds are placed in a filter basket inside the machine which is filled with water. The hot water drips through the ground into a glass carafe to produce brewed coffee.

When I was in college, I met a Japanese friend who taught me how to prepare Japanese green tea. Tried to teach her some  common English words so  she sent me packs of green tea complete with instructions on how to enjoy a cup. That pretty much started my love affair with the beverage. Green tea is dried, not fermented so it produces a lighter flavor. It’s good for colon cleansing.  There are several varieties of tea in the market today – black tea, Earl Gray, Oolong tea, Orange Pekoe and there are varied flavors too just like coffee. There is also bubble tea which are pearl shakes made of Tapioca (sago in our Filipino language). The tea is usually served with a gigantic straw which is just the right size for slurping. Hot tea drinks may come in the flavor of almond , lemon, vanilla, orange, spearmint, peppermint and chocolate mint. I love the brand Celestial Seasonings, Twinings in different flavors and Lipton Green Tea.  There are so many locally produced tea flavors here  too like ampalaya, malunggay tea, banaba and the like. They are all medicinal. Years ago, I bought a tea set, those dainty cups which are so cute and chic and I have been using them until now.

Tea or coffee, anyone?

It’s raining.  And it’s been raining since this morning. That kind of rain that never seems to stop, we call it “tigatik” in our language.  Brrr….it’s cold in here.

It’s a perfect time for that hot cup of coffee or  that pot of hot green tea.  Along with some other gifts last Christmas,  Nissa gave me tea biscuits and a box of organic green tea from Marks and Spencer.  I have lots of tea flavors actually but lately I was more addicted to morning coffee than afternoon tea. I can’t resist this though.

tia-a

That first sip warms my throat and it’s pretty good. It really makes you think of cold and rainy afternoons.

By the way I have just updated my  other blog (it’s not new, it’s been there for about a year now) at WordPress. I posted several photos taken with friends.  If you have time,  you may visit it too and maybe, just maybe click follow.  It is different from  Dreams and Escapes because it is mostly pictures  with a bit of writing and reflections on the side. I call  it Dreams Never End. Some of you are already following it. Eventually, that would have to replace this blog because I only got 28% more free space on my allowed limits that is why I don’t want to post more pictures here.

How was the start of your new year? More than a week is already gone. It seems like time is too fast.   I am done with 5% on my commitment to read 150 books on Goodreads.  Just finished seven books, four books ahead of schedule.  It’s a nice phase. Just love those books I’ve found.

It is a rainy Tuesday, I hope it is sunny on your side of the planet.
