For the past several days, I’ve been watching dog stories on YouTube. I am fascinated watching them play, it’s sad though that there so many mistreated, abandoned and left on their own. There were those whose furs have grown and they have become unrecognizable. There are many people too who love our furry friends and they bring them to the vets then adopt them later. Some are just puppies.

From sketches in stillness.

I am reminded of this photo by our eight existing doggies. Oreo, our Shih Poo is as playful as ever, our Shih Tzu Cookie is so “malambing”.

Our four other dogs have learned to adjust with just the two puppies left behind. They stay in the garage or dirty kitchen. They eat twice a day. They are our doorbell when there is someone at the gate. We named our two puppies Sadie and Max.

Max loves belly rub. Everytime he sees me, he would lie down and wait. Sometimes, Sadie would come along and lick my fingers when she sees me petting the former. She is my constant companion in the garden.

Indeed, “how beautiful it is to find someone who asks for nothing but your company”.

Yesterday, we got worried about Cookie. Her bowel movement was frequent so at around 8:30 pm last night, Josef and Jovy had to bring her to the vet. She has Parvo, a contagious virus affecting dogs. She was given several medications and seven days injections which cost sky-high. She probably got it when they usually go out for a walk inside our village.

Oreo stayed with me last night and he’s now asleep at the foot of the bed. When Jovy and Josef came home from the vet clinic today, they sanitized everything inside the house. Jovy did the fogging and floor cleaning while Josef disinfected the garden. After a while, a veterinarian and his two companions arrived. Noki has three shots, anti-rabies (which we do every year) immunity and deworming. Nika and Niki had immunity, deworming and anti-rabies vaccine too. They could not catch Lassie, the elusive one so they were not able to vaccinate her. Oreo had his 8 in one vaccine months ago while Cookie had her 5 in one at the same time. I guess Parvo vaccine is not included in the latter.

As I have said before, our fur babies are family members so if one of them gets sick, we worry. I hope Cookie will get well soon. I asked the vet why some dogs seem to be always afraid of human and he said, they might have been maltreated in the early years of their lives.

It is Oreo’s third birthday. They say that the equivalent dog years depend on the breed of the dog and on how big or small they are. For a poodle, Oreo is fully grown.

We took lots of pictures of course. He has lots of Dentastix, 2 cartoons of doggie milk and three kilos of dog food as gifts. There was this single small slipper as a freebie from where we bought the decor, buntings and balloon but it was a toy for him, it has a pretty sound when he shakes it.

What a lovely birthday, the humans enjoyed the food – pancit bihon, calamare and a medium-sized boodle bilao which has fried rice, lumpia, fried chicken, grilled pork slices, pork sisig and even eggplant and salted egg.

Happy third birthday Oreo.

That doggie cake has liver but I wonder what they used to color its face. Does it looks like Oreo?

As soon as the door opens,

She does cartwheels

Then reach out her two front paws

She wants a cuddle

That’s our lovely Cookie.

Oreo comes next

Burying his head on my lap

A few back rubs is enough.

Noki gets jealous at times

He wags his tail

But Oreo barks at him

A bigger dog that he is

He just keeps quiet

Trying to say, “give me a few moments please”.

When it’s just the two us

He raises his four paws

Up in the air

Swooning over a few touches.

They say dogs are man’s best friends

Certainly, I do agree.

He had his fur trimmed late this afternoon. they have to go to the vet’s clinic late so there won’t be so many people around.

It’s the best trim I’ve ever seen so far. Before, he had shorter trim than this because his hair had lots of tangles when it stays long. Hmm…he smells so good. The dog shampoo they used smells heavenly. Pet grooming at its best.

Best pose Oreo?  The whiskers are defined…haha!

We were at the garden this afternoon including Oreo. He has now learned to bark or whine when he wants to go out and pee. Dogs are intelligent, aren’t they?  When we are outside and are busy, we make him sit on the ledge of the front window. He couldn’t jump because it is high. Good thing he is friendly with our other dog Noki but when he is inside the car and Noki shows his face near it, he barks. Quite territorial. He goes with Josef and Jovy  when they visit the latter’s  grandma every week.

I took a photo of him earlier. I think he needs another trim, I could barely see his eyes.

Oreo at two….

Getting ready for another outing on the beach, we tried his new doggie goggles yesterday. Aba sosyal siya, he has a floater too….but he is a good swimmer.

HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY OREO. You’ve been with us for almost two years now. In dog years,  you’re getting old. I wonder how old you are exactly now, because in dog years it depends on the breed. Some say one  human year is equivalent to seven  dog years. So you are still teenager….haha 🙂

Yesterday while we were eating lunch and Oreo was seated near, he saw this fresh ampalaya (bitter gourd) that I planned of cooking for dinner sauteed in eggs and paired with fried fish.

We were all surprised when he started munching on the vegetable and seemed to enjoy it so we took a video. I tried uploading it here but a fellow blogger said she can’t open the link so I just erased it. This is the first time I’ve seen a dog eat fresh ampalaya, I am pretty sure he won’t touch it when it is cooked. We googled the benefits of eating fresh ampalaya by those other breed of doggies and it has several.

After his restless sleep last night waiting for Josef to come home, he finally went back to sleep this afternoon and early this evening.  He was quite comfortable in a corner with his travel pillow. Haha, sometimes he snores.

Took these shots a few minutes ago while Oreo was enjoying looking at the passing vehicles and motorcycles at our place. Marking his territory.

Our other dog Noki was barking like crazy when he saw us. He was confined at the dirty kitchen.

Look at that fur. He needs a trim but his vet has resigned from the pet shop  where we usually bring him. We’re still looking for a  pet shop nearby.
