She’s one of our six doggies outside that accompanies me whenever I am in the garden. They are free to roam around the garden. In Tagalog we say, she is so malambing. When I am sitting at the ledge at our garage, she would raise her two paws and pokes me gently. I always say, massage my back please…haha! A gentle and loving Aspin.
For the past several days, I’ve been watching dog stories on YouTube. I am fascinated watching them play, it’s sad though that there so many mistreated, abandoned and left on their own. There were those whose furs have grown and they have become unrecognizable. There are many people too who love our furry friends and they bring them to the vets then adopt them later. Some are just puppies.
From sketches in stillness.
I am reminded of this photo by our eight existing doggies. Oreo, our Shih Poo is as playful as ever, our Shih Tzu Cookie is so “malambing”.
Our four other dogs have learned to adjust with just the two puppies left behind. They stay in the garage or dirty kitchen. They eat twice a day. They are our doorbell when there is someone at the gate. We named our two puppies Sadie and Max.
Max loves belly rub. Everytime he sees me, he would lie down and wait. Sometimes, Sadie would come along and lick my fingers when she sees me petting the former. She is my constant companion in the garden.
Indeed, “how beautiful it is to find someone who asks for nothing but your company”.
She’s one of the two puppies we have left after our three doggies have given birth to nine. Six were adopted, the seventh is supposed to be adopted too but she died a week ago after bringing her to the vet. Sadie and Max would barely eat four days ago. They were confined at one of the dog hospitals in Pasig three days ago. Max still would not eat but he is on IV. Sadie is back to her boisterous self playing with our four doggies. Max is left at the hospital.
Oreo and Cookie, our poodle and shih tzu are not allowed to go out in the meantime.
Three days or four days ago, Josef and Jovy found Noki at the pound. That was the second day that we were looking for him. They approached the police and they helped them to secure Noki back since he was not at the pound. Those in charge of it know healthy and nice breed dog so they didn’t bring him there. I guess he was also traumatized. My kids would have to buy him back.
The other day, they decided to adopt a dog, a Jack Russell. I was amazed that he is a good dog. He was wagging his tail when we fed him. Noki was jealous of course, he kept on barking but when Jovy finished bathing the dog, they were already friends. We decided to call her Niki.
Yesterday, I was surprised when the small truck of the pound arrived at our gate. As soon as Niki saw it, she readily hid herself under our dining table and she was shaking. She was afraid of those men she saw at the gate. Even dogs know who cares for them and who does not. They brought with them two more dogs. Jovy paid 1k for both. I guess they are Aspin (native dogs). A female and a male. She said the male would be given to her brother. One stayed in the rain yesterday. He won’t budge. They are now in the garden but they haven’t adapted yet to their environment.
I pity the poor dogs, those in-charge of the pound euthanize them after three or four days when nobody claims them. I bet they eat them too. They sell those which other dog lovers like. Josef and Jovy took pity on the two dogs. We cannot pet them yet because they are still afraid of us. They need baths too. It may take sometime before we could even play with them. The male one destroyed my Cosmos seedlings which I planted at one corner of the garden. He slept there last night.
So now we have five dogs in all, Cookie, Oreo, Noki, Niki and the new one. Dogs are family members too. The last three are our guard dogs.
This is really, really sad. We lost our guard dog Noki two days ago. He is a half Lab, half Spitz. A very gentle and lovable dog. I don’t know if he went out when Josef opened the garage to take the car out. But he always come back once we close the garage door. I was calling him yesterday so he could eat his lunch but he didn’t come out.
He normally stays in our garage under the car or at our dirty kitchen to play with our two kitties. Josef and Jovy went to the dog pound yesterday to inquire to no avail. I love that dog. He is my companion when I am gardening. Maybe someone picked him while he was outside.
Jovy cried when they reached home. Noki was her gift to Josef years ago. Last night I dreamt that he came back. He usually cries when he is left outside the gate.
Yesterday, I took some shots of Cookie. She is now sporting a new look because she was newly trimmed.
She will be turning a year old come August 22 but she is twice larger than Oreo. Sobrang malikot. She is so playful that it is kind of hard to take photos of her now.
As for Oreo, we have a favorite place when he is out of the room. An automatic gesture for him because he loves a back rub.
I was able to take photos of Cookie by placing her atop our built-in cabinet.
I was playing with Cookie the other day. She gave me a kiss when she went out of their room. Although she is only eight-month old, she is more affectionate than Oreo. The latter is now so independent and territorial. As for Cookie, even if the door is slightly open, she would not enter unless you call her. I took a few shots of her and compared to some of her photos when we brought her home at more than a month. She was so tiny then and was not used to puppy food. She eventually learned to enjoy taking a bath whereas a few months ago, she was afraid of the water.
At 8.5 kilos she is far too heavier than Oreo at 5.5 kilos.
This is how she looks now compared to her picture when we brought her home (on the first photo).
They say that dogs are the most loyal friends. I watched a video some days ago. The dog was watching the niche/tomb of the man who recently died. He was his friend and caretaker.
Josef and Jovy were on leave today from work. They bought some groceries for us and the Samgyupsal grill. I had chicken, pork, and several kilos of fish and some veggies delivered today with no extra charge. I am glad that the seller took time to make a price list of what I ordered and printed it. They have vacuum-sealed everything except the veggies. That’s what I call good service. At last, I found a seller who is also after the convenience of the buyer. I haven’t eaten fish for almost two months now because I could not find someone who sells them fresh at least…. until this morning.
We enjoyed a yummy dinner with everything grilled. The samgyupsal tasted so good with all those side dishes and sausages plus the fresh Romaine lettuce. The thing is, it is a little hard to clean the grill.
This afternoon, Josef and Jovy brought the three furry loves to the animal clinic. They have to go back to fetch Noki for his anti-rabies injection. Cookie has her five in one shots and they told me that the vet calls her Taba. During the week that she stayed with us, she gained weight. Taba means fat…hehe! Oreo is now done with the eight in one shots. Actually, all three of them have gained weight especially Noki. He is not used riding in the car so he held on to Josef on their way to the vet’s clinic. Cookie just went to sleep when they reached home. She is well-behaved unlike Oreo, short of opening the door by himself, he keeps jumping every time the two arrive home. He knows the sound of the gate opening.
It's been some years since I started this blog. Supposedly, it was only to share my plight as a cancer patient and survivor but over the years it has somehow evolved into something personal about my life and my family.
So really glad to have met you all wonderful people out there. Someone commented once that he liked the title of this blog, Dreams and Escapes. Dream on, there are more things in life than we really think. Be happy, you only live once. Sometimes you also need an escape from the vicissitudes of life and this blog helps me cope. Welcome. Feel free to leave your comments, I do welcome them.
