For the past several days, I’ve been watching dog stories on YouTube. I am fascinated watching them play, it’s sad though that there so many mistreated, abandoned and left on their own. There were those whose furs have grown and they have become unrecognizable. There are many people too who love our furry friends and they bring them to the vets then adopt them later. Some are just puppies.

From sketches in stillness.

I am reminded of this photo by our eight existing doggies. Oreo, our Shih Poo is as playful as ever, our Shih Tzu Cookie is so “malambing”.

Our four other dogs have learned to adjust with just the two puppies left behind. They stay in the garage or dirty kitchen. They eat twice a day. They are our doorbell when there is someone at the gate. We named our two puppies Sadie and Max.

Max loves belly rub. Everytime he sees me, he would lie down and wait. Sometimes, Sadie would come along and lick my fingers when she sees me petting the former. She is my constant companion in the garden.

Indeed, “how beautiful it is to find someone who asks for nothing but your company”.

Yesterday, we got worried about Cookie. Her bowel movement was frequent so at around 8:30 pm last night, Josef and Jovy had to bring her to the vet. She has Parvo, a contagious virus affecting dogs. She was given several medications and seven days injections which cost sky-high. She probably got it when they usually go out for a walk inside our village.

Oreo stayed with me last night and he’s now asleep at the foot of the bed. When Jovy and Josef came home from the vet clinic today, they sanitized everything inside the house. Jovy did the fogging and floor cleaning while Josef disinfected the garden. After a while, a veterinarian and his two companions arrived. Noki has three shots, anti-rabies (which we do every year) immunity and deworming. Nika and Niki had immunity, deworming and anti-rabies vaccine too. They could not catch Lassie, the elusive one so they were not able to vaccinate her. Oreo had his 8 in one vaccine months ago while Cookie had her 5 in one at the same time. I guess Parvo vaccine is not included in the latter.

As I have said before, our fur babies are family members so if one of them gets sick, we worry. I hope Cookie will get well soon. I asked the vet why some dogs seem to be always afraid of human and he said, they might have been maltreated in the early years of their lives.

Yesterday, I took some shots of Cookie. She is now sporting a new look because she was newly trimmed.

She will be turning a year old come August 22 but she is twice larger than Oreo. Sobrang malikot. She is so playful that it is kind of hard to take photos of her now.

As for Oreo, we have a favorite place when he is out of the room. An automatic gesture for him because he loves a back rub.

I was able to take photos of Cookie by placing her atop our built-in cabinet.

She Has Grown

I was playing with Cookie the other day. She gave me a kiss when she went out of their room. Although she is only eight-month old, she is more affectionate than Oreo. The latter is now so independent and territorial. As for Cookie, even if the door is slightly open, she would not enter unless you call her. I took a few shots of her and compared to some of her photos when we brought her home at more than a month. She was so tiny then and was not used to puppy food. She eventually learned to enjoy taking a bath whereas a few months ago, she was afraid of the water.

At 8.5 kilos she is far too heavier than Oreo at 5.5 kilos.

They say that dogs are the most loyal friends. I watched a video some days ago. The dog was watching the niche/tomb of the man who recently died. He was his friend and caretaker.

I finally had our Santan plants infront of the house trimmed and our side fence planted with Snake plants cleaned. I just hired two of the subdivision’s maintenance workers and gave them half of their daily wage for less than a two-hour job.

Our two doggies had their hair trim too last Saturday. I can no longer take a good shot of Oreo so I took a photo of Cookie instead.

She is now twice the size of Oreo. She is better behaved than Oreo.

I had a nice chat with a high school classmate whom I haven’t seen for so many years. We touched on our families, how it is growing old, our high school and college life. It is so nice to reminisce. We had a good laugh remembering.

Done with my 15th book for this year’s book challenge. Lately read two books of Laura Ingall Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie. I remember those late high school and early college days when the whole family watched the series every night on television. I found it on YouTube and watched the early years. So nice to see them all again. I love the books though. Simple prose about family life and living in the wilderness.

I am trying to read another book by Dean Koontz. Hopefully it’s as good as his two books I’ve read before.

As soon as the door opens,

She does cartwheels

Then reach out her two front paws

She wants a cuddle

That’s our lovely Cookie.

Oreo comes next

Burying his head on my lap

A few back rubs is enough.

Noki gets jealous at times

He wags his tail

But Oreo barks at him

A bigger dog that he is

He just keeps quiet

Trying to say, “give me a few moments please”.

When it’s just the two us

He raises his four paws

Up in the air

Swooning over a few touches.

They say dogs are man’s best friends

Certainly, I do agree.
