Allow me to count the days, yes, it’s 66 days to go before Christmas.

This is vastly different from the anticipated days of the season the previous years. Around this time every year you’ll hear Christmas carols in the air and malls have lovely Christmas decor all around. Or maybe I don’t listen to a radio anymore nor watch television. Since the pandemic last year, I have only gone out twice in a mall. We just buy basic necessities online and through the grocery store in our subdivision.

Although I have completed my Christmas gifts to family, I don’t even feel that Christmas is coming so close. Everyone on social media are busy with the coming election, me included. Duterte’s minions have troll farms posting fake news every day and those vulnerable enough, the D and E crowd who don’t have enough resources to research and know the truth believe everything they see on the news. Imagine a troll having hundreds of cellphones which he uses to post fake news. So frustrating. This was how duterte won last 2016.

I believe in the pink revolution. May we be delivered from this present ugly governance.

As I have mentioned here  before, I don’t normally watch television but I listen to  the radio when I am gardening.

I stumbled upon this  online vlog by Zsa Zsa Padilla, one of those artists who is a talented singer as well.  She is a natural in front of the camera, no wonder, she already earned two million followers on YouTube.  She is a mainstay of ASAP (All-Star Sunday Afternoon Party) but then last August ABS-CBN, the largest communications network here in the country closed its doors because their franchise was not renewed by this government. Anything that opposes it is shut down.

Yesterday,  ASAP which used to be carried by ABS-CBN  reopened in collaboration with another TV channel. Some programs are also now being carried by Zoe Broadcasting  Network which was re-branded as A2Z  TV.

Back to Zsa Zsa, she  posted their opening numbers at ASAP with various  artists singing a medley of Tagalog  and English Christmas songs which I used to listen to every Christmas season. I was mesmerized. Nabuhayan ako ng loob.  There is still  Christmas 🙂 How lovely to listen and watch them render those lovely melodies.  We don’t have Zoe channel so I watched it on my cellphone. So nice to be carried away by those entertaining and lively music. There is something now that I could go back watching and be inspired.

I just laughed and smiled.

A few days ago, I saw this video on Facebook featuring our talented and famous local artist  Jose Mari Chan introducing some of his new compositions along with old songs that were so popular playing in the air lanes in recent years. He is a singer and a composer, a gifted artist.

And would you believe?

They talked about the BER months saying that it is only a month to go before we start celebrating Christmas. Yes, we have the longest celebration of Christmas on planet earth that starts on September and ends around the month of January. Then Jose Mari Chan sang his famous Christmas songs and I was hooked. It prompted me to go to YouTube and find more, the Ray Conniff singers, the Gunter Kallmann choir and the group called Pentatonix. Of course the version of Bing Crosby’s   I’m Dreaming Of A White Christmas tops them all.  It’s a 1942 original version.

Christmas in August, why not?

I have a confession to make. Over the years, I play Christmas songs as early as June and I get a thrill listening to those fantastic voices. There is nothing like a good melody to make you smile and reminisce even of Christmas past –  the family gatherings and reunions, buying gifts for family and close friends, preparing a nice menu for Christmas and New Year’s eve, seeing lanterns on the streets at night, decorating the Christmas tree and of course listening to Christmas music.

The days are long but they move fast. We still have birthdays to celebrate.
