Happy Pentecost Sunday

Today is Pentecost Sunday, it’s the birthday of our Church. I actually attended two morning masses. Early this morning I caught Fr. Fernando Suarez on his 6am mass on television. I always love listening to him every chance I get because I love how he shares his reflections in his wonderful homilies.  He emphasized that spiritual healing is more important than a physical one.  When you are spiritually healed, you find peace.  I also attended the 7:30 am mass at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, a five-minute tricycle ride from our place.

I borrowed our profile picture from our apostolate page, Apostles Filipino Catholic Community where I am one of the admins.  It’s a public  page where we post reflections, Catholic news, daily gospel readings and inspirational quotes every day.  Updating it really makes my stay at FB worthwhile. And here’s my short spiritual reflection for the day:

God is love. God is joy. God is peace. Let love, joy and peace reign in our hearts forever.

It’s Pentecost Sunday

Happy birthday to all of us. Pentecost Sunday is one of the most ancient feasts of the Catholic Church and is celebrated fifty days after Easter. Pentecost Sunday is a commemoration and celebration of the receiving of the Holy Spirit by the early church. It recognizes the gift of the Holy Spirit, realizing that God’s very life, breath and energy lives in believers. We have this lovely  profile pic made by Fr. Louie at our Catholic site on Facebook. We attended mass at our village chapel today. It’s been a while since we attended mass here since we usually attend Sunday masses at St. Jude Parish in the nearby subdivision. It was a bit late at 6:15pm and the priest’s homily took all of thirty minutes, quite long for  an hour of Eucharistic celebration.  I really admire priests who can deliver their homily in a span of fifteen minutes and yet they can still incorporate lessons about life and apply it to the Gospel of the day. You will remember the impact of a good homily when it is delivered in such a way that you get to understand it better. Some priests just do the repetitious act of quoting the Gospel, verbatim and expound on it a little, maybe they are not that really prepared and you see people yawning in their seats.

We are actually celebrating two events today, the birth of a nation and the birth of the church. We are celebrating our 113th Independence Day today. Aren’t  you proud to be a Filipino?
