Nate 12-24-20

Yes, we haven’t seen each other for ten months except through Messenger video chats until today. Another milestone in our lives seeing each other again.

No kisses except tights hugs and “I love you Nate” and “I love you Nonna” in between. He has grown so tall for an eight-year old.

Through the short time that they were here, we had lunch together  and Nate enjoyed playing with my revolving computer chair and he said that he liked it.  Nissa didn’t buy him one at home because she knew he would play  with it.

I gave him a set of pajama and Word Factory. I told him to enjoy playing with her mom and dad. It is a good educational game from seven to adult.

Nissa  and I took lots of pictures of course (for prosperity and remembrance).  We will choose which one to upload later.

I guess I won’t need to cook later for Noche Buena, we still have untouched food inside the ref and I ordered two roasted chicken for later.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL.

Nate And I

Nate and I had a nice video chat a while ago. He showed me their Christmas decor focusing on the Christmas tree.

“I didn’t put up ours” I said and he asked why.

“Can you tag along when your mom and dad come over?”

“They won’t let me go out”, he answered. I told him there’s the car.

“I have some gifts for you”, I said.

“Thank you Nonna, I would not miss that. I’ll ask Mom”

.It is always nice talking to Nate even just through video chat. I miss the little guy. Oh but he is growing taller everyday and a little chubby too 🙂

Gosh, I was about to “press this” my new blog  post  on Nate from my other blog https://nonnaarlene.wordpress.com/2020/09/05/making-it-simple/  to share it here on Dreams and Escapes when it switched to block editor while I was about to post it  here. My goodness, whereas before  the link is automatically posted, now it is only the title that I see.

Crazy. I don’t want to switch to block editor yet. It is making the post complicated.

I was surprised to receive a message from Nissa early this morning asking me to add Nate to my list of contacts on Messenger.  Only Messenger is installed on my tab, no FB because I use it for my e-books. Nate prefers video chat where he can see me. Our conversation goes like this:

Nate: Hello Nonna  (with so many love emoticons). I Love you.

Nonna: Love you too baby. so glad to see you online.

Nate: I am studying. (Nissa says he had live lessons a couple of hours ago).

Nonna: Study well and please don’t go out.

Nate: I won’t Nonna.

A few minutes ago  he called me up again and he said he is on a class break.  I asked him if he is enjoying his online study and he said, he does. Well and good. Nissa created Nate’s messenger account so they could talk when she is at the office. He knows how to send a text message now but is still quite slow. Oh my gosh, my message chat box is full of emoticons from him. Now we think of it, I know it is not that healthy to let kids stay too long in front of their tab or PC but that is the new normal now….online learning. They could adopt to it but there is still a need for supervision from parents especially those kids as young as Nate. A teacher friend told me that only two hours continuous stay in front of a computer is allowed and in-between they should rest.  Nate said his class is until 1:30 pm.

This pandemic is changing lives and we are forced to adopt to it.

Monday, Monday, so good to me.

Ah, I think it is a line in one of the songs of the Mamas and the Papas, right? I am having a LSS at the moment but I just hope Monday would be good and also the rest of the week.

Here’s one good news I guess. Nissa told me last night that there is another medal  waiting for Nate which she and Obet will get today from  Nate’s school. It is still part of the two medals  ( High Honors and Character Traits Awards) plus the  certificate he got earlier this school year.  Best English Speaker.  I  am not surprised since he is speaking the language since he learned how to talk and speak.  Mother and son are comparing notes…haha! Nissa  told  him  that she had hers (from nursery to college) kept here. She was able though to show him her college diploma and took shot of it last night. Nate asked her what Magna Cum Laude means so she explained it. She told him to study well. I told you he is seven going twenty, right? He has this dream of being a Magna Cum Laude too when he graduates….yeay!

Dreams are not impossible to come  true as long as you believe they are  achievable.  Focus, diligence, conscientiousness and right attitude coupled with prayers for guidance.

Proud Nonna here.

Two days ago, I posted a photo of Nissa and Nate. Nate’s hair has become a little long for summer wear.

Yesterday, his dad attempted to cut his hair. It was the first time that Obet held scissors in his hands to trim Nate’s hair. Here’s the new look, haha 🙂

One becomes a little enterprising when there is really a need to be. Kaya naman pala.  Nissa says he likes it.

Nate And His Butterflies

Have you ever tried catching a butterfly with your hands?

You can’t, right? Unless you use a butterfly net to catch one.

Let Nature be their friend.

Let them free,

Before you know it,

They might land somewhere near

And you’ll be able to admire their shapes, colors, and the

designs of their wings.

There are so many plants that butterflies love.

They have very short lives.

Enjoy them while they fly.

WITHOUT prompting, ask your child these questions and write EXACTLY what they say about you:

What is something mommy says a lot?
Nate: I love you, Nate

•What makes mommy happy?
Nate: me

•What makes mommy sad?
Nate: When I’m makulit

•What’s mommy’s favorite thing to do?
Nate: Spend time with me

•What is mommy’s favourite food?
Nate: Veggies

•What is mommy’s favorite drink?
Nate: Beer

•If mommy could go anywhere, where would she go?
Nate: to the mall to go shopping

•How does mommy annoy you?
Nate: When you’re mad at me

•What is mommy’s favorite tv show?
Nate: Goblin

•What is mommy’s job?
Nate:banking

•What is mommy’s favorite color?
Nate: Purple!

•How much do you love mommy?
Nate: So much!

Nissa doesn’t know where he got the beer because she doesn’t drink beer, or maybe he sees her occasionally with one.

Last Tuesday, my son-in-law Obet brought Nate to the hospital after his class. Nissa was napping when they came and when he saw his mom, he asked his dad if he could kiss her. He said he’ll be careful not to touch her bandaged throat.

As soon as Nissa woke up, Nate gave her a folded note which he placed inside the plastic box of Nissa’s rosary. How sweet of him, this was what he wrote.

He was so attentive of Nissa, giving her water to drink and he even talked to the nurses and doctors when they did their rounds. One of the nurses asked him if he wants to be a doctor too and he answered “yes”. We just smiled  and when Nissa’s doctor asked where he was studying, he readily answered, “ICAM”. The doctor smiled and said that it is probably one of those international schools and Nate said, “it’s Immaculate Conception Academy”. The former even commented that he is quite tall for his age at six.

When they left later, Nissa showed me some of his earlier notes which he rolled in a small empty canister of M & M. So sweet of Nate writing these notes at his age.

When they left, he told the nurse that he’ll be back. Of course that was the only time Obet brought him to the hospital. As Nissa is still on sick leave for another week, they have a lot of time to bond.

I remember Nissa and Josef when they were at similar age. Everytime we went home, there would always be love letters written in sometimes torn page of a notebook  pasted at the door. What mattered was the love freely given and the thoughtful gestures behind it.

Yes, feeling a bit nostalgic this gloomy Monday morning. I was looking at the photos in my library then I again saw these photos of Nate and Obet which Nissa calls in a series, Grow Tall Little Man. I’ve blogged about them before.

He is definitely growing and getting tall for his age. I was even surprised with some of his photos with those subdued smiles. He is missing two front teeth. Another milestone 🙂  Time flies really!

And in between those days and years, we are learning a lot too. Valuing time, spending those moments together, making memories. And he reads real books now – amazing! If I remember my grade school years, I was just learning to read and write my ABCs when I was more than six, like Nate’s age now.
