When Nate was born, I started a separate blog to document his growing-up years. I haven’t religiouly updated it since the family lives far from us. I wrote about those events that highlighted his achievements, yes, he is an academic achiever, the days when he experienced those lovely episodes in his life – his first plane ride going south, his first time going abroad to Singapore and Legoland in Malaysia when he was seven, those school activities that he was awarded with medals and Certificates of Merit and many such events that made me so proud of him.

Tomorrow, he is turning 10. I wrote this letter on his first birthday. How lovely to see that he is growing up a good, loving, lovable and smart boy.

A LETTER TO MY DARLING NATE ON HIS FIRST BIRTHDAY

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY darling baby Nate. Yeay, and you are counting  How time flies, now you can walk on your own even if they’re just baby steps. It’s  time to see the world from a higher place and discover many, many things dear to your heart.

I can’t believe it, was it only a year ago when your Dad and I patiently waited for you to see the world and hear your first cry? Was it only a year ago when your mom excitedly showed us your pictures while she was in the delivery room  even if she was groggy from anesthesia? And I promised myself I would write about your growing up years. You’re one year old now and we’ll have more days, months and years to discover the world through your eyes. And may you grow to be  strong, smart, healthy  and loving and  may you continue to possess that innocence so endearing to see in a lovable child that you are. And I wish you all the precious things that a loving Nonna could wish for.

I love you baby, you are God’s greatest gift to us. We are indeed blessed having you in our lives. Again, happy birthday❤️🥰❤️

Since it was only the four of us, I didn’t bother to cook. Josef works from home every Thursday and Friday. Jovy leaves the house around 2pm.

I ordered cooked veggies from our neighbour, Nissa sent a box of chicken inasal, Josef bought an ube cake🎂 which is a favorite, Jovy gave me a box of Twinings Camomile tea. There was a vendor who passed by this morning selling slippers so I bought a pair for me. That was how simple the celebration was. Josef took some photos on my tab.

I think Red Ribbon forgot to include a candle.
I love this cake flavour but I could only eat a small slice because I’m watching my blood sugar.
Chicken Inasal sent by Nissa for our lunch.
I need this, I drink Camomile tea every day. It lowers glycemic index.
A lovely pair of slippers as gift to myself…..haha!

Truly blessed at 66.

Early this morning, I received a bag of groceries and an umbrella from our town mayor, Mayor Elen Nieto, wife of our former mayor.

It was a nice surprise. Last year, I had to go to the municipal office to get it, this time, two of their staff delivered it. THANK YOU so much.

I love that cute coin purse, a change from the one I had last year. It is nice to be remembered.

I have lots of umbrellas now, sent some to my sis-in-law and cousins in the province. Every year, an umbrella is included in their gifts 📦.

I can’t resist posting these from the lovely photos on Nissa’s birthday 🎂 . They celebrated at SOFITEL MANILA. I am saving on space hence these two.

Look at those lovely smiles ☺
SOFITEL’s way of greeting a birthday celebrator. In other high-end restaurants like Vikings, the staff often serenade one with birthday greetings.

I think I am getting old. I now have a forty-year old daughter but I wish I have more grandkids. It must be nice to have a big family.

Back in our time at Bank of PI, we were always allowed to file a vacation leave on the day of our birthday. So they are still doing it until today. Obet also filed a leave of absence and Nate does not have class today.

I asked Nissa where they’ll be having their lunch. It’s at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel. Wow, what a grand celebration. I enjoyed reading the comments on the tribute I wrote for Nissa. Nate is as smart as his mom. I hope when he grows up, he’ll be as successful as Nissa.

Yesterday, we celebrated Mom’s 93rd birthday, it was just the two of us for lunch so I just ordered kare-kare, barbeque, afritada and Beef Caldereta. Nissa sent two family-sized pizza in different flavors while Josef bought Red Ribbon cake. We had late dinner so mom was not able to blow the candle on her cake. She said she was sleepy at around 8:30 pm. She usually has dinner at 6 pm.

She loved the food and we have much left in the ref, probably good for two more days and the birthday cake remains untouched. I’ll give her a slice later.

Our two puppies are confined at the dog clinic since last night. Another one died three days ago after Jovy and Josef brought her to the vet. The two confined puppies are the only ones left out of the nine because the six others were given earlier to Jovy’s friends. I really don’t know what happened, all of a sudden, they won’t eat. We only feed them Pedigree meat and cooked rice. It is so expensive to bring pets to the vet. They have already spent around 10k the past few days. I wonder how much more they have to pay for the confinement of the two. Josef disinfects our garden every night for three days now. I hope, these two will get well soon.

They timed it on Noel’s birthday at the same time some Filipino friends had their Christmas party. I saw all their lovely photos with the dollar cake. Noel enjoyed pulling out all the dollars individually wrapped in plastic. Quite a long one, his friends’ birthday gift.

My youngest brother Noel and his wife Lanette.
Oh, what a lovely spread.

It must be nice being born on a December day, so many parties to celebrate. My other brother Alden has his birthday every New Year.

Gosh, I am having an LSS and it goes like this.

“We’re not alone, we’ve got the world you know
And it won’t let us down
And we’ll grow old, but think how wise we’ll grow
There’s more you know,
It’s only New Year’s eve”.

Yes, since a friend greeted me once happy new year instead of happy birthday, I always consider the succeeding birthdays as new years in my life.

My goodness, this is another pandemic birthday. Tomorrow I will be turning 65. How did the year go? It was quiet, so quiet but I am not complaining because I was able to catch up on my gardening, reading (another favorite pastime), updating our Catholic page and two groups here on FB, updating my blogs (yes, I have several of them) and attending daily masses online despite the limitations of not being able to go out. I don’t experiment in the kitchen anymore because most of the time, I feel so lazy to cook so we order food online. Besides, I am afraid to go out because of the low immunity I have due to cancer eleven years ago. For the past years, face masks were always a part of my get-up every time I went out.

THANK YOU LORD for all the blessings, for this beautiful life You gave me. Grateful for another new year in my life.

Yes, tomorrow, I’m turning 65.

Got so lazy again, just heard two online masses morning and afternoon, loaded the washing machine and cooked spaghetti for lunch. Haha, that’s how my day went. I didn’t even visit the garden. My plants are probably good for two more days without watering.

Aside from the surprise bouquet that Nissa sent me on my birthday,  she gave me additional gifts when they came over  last Saturday. Wow, two lovely sets of pajama and these two equally lovely washable face masks with eyelet designs but were provided with  inner pockets for  additional padding.

Nissa is so thoughtful when it comes to giving gifts.  Attached to the gifts is a homemade card from Nate. I was touched. He filled my Messenger with emoticons/emojis on my birthday – flowers, hearts, smileys, praying hand, a girl running. Maybe he does not know yet how to type his greetings hence, the more than twenty emojis on my wall.

I remember when Josef and Nissa were Nate’s age. They always had surprise letters and drawings when we got  home from work. They are still kept in my shoe box.

The joy of being remembered…priceless 🙂
