It’s those moments when they just click follow but they don’t engage – no likes, no comments. I have a mind to say maybe some bloggers think that you’ll follow them back which is not always the case.
I love seeing “likes” on my posts. It means either they actually read your post or just scanned it for a few seconds. A friend once told me on FB that when she click “like” on my wall about something I wrote, she is saying that she has read it or telling me that she is there. Normally, she would come back and comment later.
I have close to 5,000 followers but I only get 15 to 30 likes on the average. I am lucky if at least ten of them would make a comment on a post. Back in my early years blogging when I participated once in WordPress’ challenge of blogging every day, there were so many comments and likes. Maybe I have exhausted thinking about contents that are still worth- reading. I have around 4,000 posts more or less because I keep five blogs. I have one for photography loving the macro shots I did, I have started one too when my grandson Nate was born in 2012, a gardening blog which I update now and then and a new one I started three years ago but I don ‘t know what happened, I could not access it anymore although I can still see those earlier posts I made with photos in every post when I am not logged in to it. And of course, this main blog, Dreams and Escapes. I am almost at the end of this free theme and platform. You could all find the links when you visit my blog. A lot of us do get updated on our reader feed without going to the blog itself.
I follow close to a hundred bloggers but most of them are no longer active and I miss their posts. Maybe they got tired of blogging?

It seems to me more people should be liking and commenting, since you have so many followers. I often get 15 to 20 likes, and my stats are not high at all compared to yours. I guess a core number of people are regular.

Oh well, maybe they are not satisfied with my content. You are one of those who regularly visit my blog and for that, my sincere thank you Anne.

Your posts are interesting. I think people are busy and don’t take the time to comment. With my daughter here, I didn’t look at Facebook and skipped a number of blog posts.

I’m new to blogging. When I struggle to share something personal, it is rewarding to get a like just to learn someone out there read it.

I have well over 8,000 followers, supposedly. But if Iget 30 likes and 20 comments on a post, I am very happy with that. So many people are not really followers. We have to rely on the real community bloggers to make the experience worthwhile.
Best wishes, Pete.

Wow, you’ve surely gone a long way Pete. I don’t blog as much now as I did before. Started my slow reading yesterday and my new journal too.

Up until the start of last year I had so many more views, likes, comments and follows. However, after the update in March/April 2021 everything has dropped in my stats. I try not to care too much but it sort of sucks. And a lot of people who were regulars on my blog no longer blog so that sucks too. I think there may just be less bloggers now and so many people stop blogging every month so that’s probably why even with more followers you may not get a lot of likes/comments.

Hi Pooja, thanks for your kind words. I thought I was the only one having this decrease of visitors and other bloggers. Keep well.

Hi Arlene. You are quite right about “following” and really blogging. ‘Been meaning to drop by for a while. My apologies for being late and not very frequent. (I did take a few months break though)
I hope you and your family are in good health, and happy. The two most important treasures in life, isn’t it?
Happy December. And Merry Christmas if we don’t connect again. (I have family visiting from overseas from mid-December to early January. Blogging will be scarce)
🤗

Hello Brian, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family too. No need to apologize, sometimes we get so busy with life in the process. Sadly though, I not in good health yet. I’ll go back to my ENT today so she could clean my left ear, I need hearing aid now for both ears. I’ll have my lab at the same time, my internist is watching my blood sugar. Enjoy your reunion.

Hi Arlene. Sorry about your health. AS Americans say, that’s a bummer. And hearing is so important… Darn… Do watch your blood sugar, my son-in-law, who’s a young man, in his 40’s just got a warning about his blood sugar. Nothing serious yet, but he has to watch it.
I hope your family is well, and that you get to see each other as frequently as possible…

Just done with my ENT but I’ll be back to her clinic on Monday for follow-up. Thanks for the good words Brian, I’m grateful.

I am planning to go back to my internist on Tuesday so he could interpret the result of my lab test, unfortunately our scheduled Christmas party for senior citizens of the subdivision will be on the same date. It’s a day affair and my first time to attend so I have no choice except to consult with my internist tomorrow. Busy days ahead. Thanks Brian!

So will be able to manage both? Best wishes Arlene.

At the moment my ear is still painful. Yes, hopefully, we’ll enjoy Christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family Brian.✨️🎄🎉

I hope your ear is better Arlene. Feliz Navidad! You probably don’t speak much Spanish anymore, but I’m sure you understand that.
Joyeux Noël would be the French version.
How is it in Tagalog?

Thanks Brian, going back to my ENT tomorrow. My hearing has improved a little but sometimes my right ear still aches.
Know a little Spanish, took 12 units of it in college. In Tagalog you say, Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon which means Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks and greetings to your family. May your Christmas celebration be a blessed one😘

Salamat for the words. Duly noted. I never heard tagalog spoken, it must be a nice language.
Maligayang Pasko to you and yours… 💕

Yes it is. But as I learn bits and pieces of other languages, I find most languages have a music of their own…

Arlene, I think a lot of people stopped blogging or stopped posting as often, especially during the Covid pandemic. I have many followers but not very many likes or comments. So I just blog because it makes me happy, even if very few people read my posts.

I guess so Deb. I still enjoy blogging of course but I also enjoy reading comments.

I too click like when I have read the blog. I am absolutely against clicking like if I have not read the entire thing. I will usually not watch videos though. I occasionally comment. And I have no real set pattern for when I follow. Some nights I go through and follow a bunch of new blogs. Other nights I just go read a bunch of new blogs.

Hello, nice to see you here. I don’t watch videos on WordPress. Sometimes, they are not available in our country.

Too many of these followers are people who run a business and want you to check them out and buy their products

I don’t buy products through WordPress. They can’t get anything from me.

Nice post Arlene. I enjoy blogging for real and I will never abandon it even in the new year.
My educated guess is that bloggers are no longer active due to many underlying problems such as their lives , some are taking a break, some have quit and others have deactivated their websites to focus on greener pastures🙌🙌

You are quite right Mthobisi, those reasons are valid enough. Thanks for the visit and for your nice comments.

🤔 It may have something to do with your blog posts not showing up on the WordPress Reader at times.
A lot of bloggers (myself included) would quicker interact with a blogger if their blog showed up on the WordPress Reader.

What an honest and relatable post! I completely agree with you that “likes” on a post can make your day. It’s nice to know that someone has taken the time to read your work and found it interesting enough to acknowledge with a simple click. But it’s also true that getting followers doesn’t necessarily translate to engagement, and it can be disheartening at times.
It’s amazing that you have managed to maintain not just one but five blogs over the years. That’s quite an achievement! And I’m sure your followers appreciate the effort you put into creating quality content for each of them. As for the lack of engagement, I believe it’s not necessarily a reflection of your content but more of the way social media algorithms work. But don’t let that discourage you from doing what you love.
It’s also a shame to hear that some of the bloggers you follow are no longer active. I hope they find their way back to blogging soon because the world needs more creative and passionate people like them. Keep up the great work, and don’t forget to pat yourself on the back once in a while for a job well done!
