Archive for December, 2022

I guess for the first time in so many years we won’t be celebrating the awaited Media Noche to observe the changing years. Josef and Jovy will celebrate it at the latter’s grandma’s place. They’ll be back tomorrow in time for dinner. So it would just be mom and me. I doubt if she would even wake up to greet the new year. I’ll just cook the palabok in time for dinner tomorrow. I made macaroni salad chicken adobo, paksiw na bangus and ordered a tub of pork hamonado. I won’t have to cook maybe again for another two days.

Compared to the previous years where around this time there were firecrackers, today is so quiet. Last night though, a crazy youth threw a stone on the window in Josef’s bedroom. One glass of our French window was broken. We didn’t see the culprit since it was dark at the vacant lot behind the house. My goodness, in my dismay at what happened, I really uttered, whoever you are, may you rest in peace. And do you know what that means? They are usually uttered when someone dies. What if they don’t have those window blinds, that stone might have hurt them. Our four dogs were at the dirty kitchen last night while two were at the garage but they didn’t even bark, it was so sudden.

Let us all look forward to the coming year. May it be healthy, prosperous and blessed 2023.

Yes, I am having an LSS singing this song in my head. I used to watch those films about Christmas and New Year and this is always sung in groups, parties and gatherings.

“Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And the days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of auld lang syne

And surely you will buy your cup
And surely I’ll buy mine!
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of auld lang syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And the days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of auld lang syne

And surely you will buy your cup
And surely I’ll buy mine!
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of auld lang syne”.

A few more hours to go and we’ll be meeting another year. Hopefully it would be better than this year. Although some days and months passed quietly, one major thing that happened was the death of my younger brother Alden last May. Went home twice and stayed for two weeks with mom after the funeral.

I started seeing an opthalmologist last June to know if my right eye is ready for cataract operation. I’m done with Biometry and my left eye which was operated on four years back needs laser treatment. My lab tests pre-op were not good so I consulted my internist at Medical City and more lab tests showed that I have a high blood sugar level. He told me that I won’t be given a schedule until my glucose is normalized, I am going back to him first week of January next year. Almost two months ago, my right ear was very painful so I visited an ENT. She said there was water inside and it was infected. She took a sample and had it cultured, it turned out it is a bacterial infection so I continued my ear drops. Last time I had a check-up, she was wondering why it hasn ‘t healed yet so she suggested that I undergo CT Scan. Josef promised to accompany me next Tuesday.

It’s hard to be upbeat sometimes when one is not feeling well. The family were blessed though with my youngest brother and sis-in-law’s presence last November for two weeks. At mom’s age now she hardly recognized Noel and I didn’t see the enthusiasm she used to display when us kids are around. That’s the bane of probably getting old. She sleeps most of the time nowadays.

I am trying to be strong so I could take better care of her. Sometimes though, I’m a little downhearted. I asked one of my doctors if my previous cancer treatment still has a bearing on my low immunity, she said yes. As I have always mentioned in my previous posts, Covid 19 brought my hearing loss.

After all these life’s challenges, I still feel the enthusiasm to meet the coming year head on. I know GOD TRULY CARESπŸ˜˜β€πŸ™βš˜β›ͺπŸŒ…πŸŽŠ

CT Scan

I had my nth check-up yesterday with my ENT. She cleaned my ear as usual and there is no more blood. All I saw were just dried residue of my Otic drops. Since she could no longer find anything why it is still not well, she suggested that I undergo CT scan. I am not just sure if it is covered by my medical insurance. The procedure costs 11K which for me is expensive. Been spending my monthly pension on medicines alone not just for my ear but for my BP and blood sugar as well. Hoping and praying it is nothing serious. It’s holiday here today and there’s no office work until Monday. Josef will have to accompany me to the hospital on Tuesday.

Need your prayers, thank you very much.

An Accident

This morning, I was on my way back to The Medical City Clinic to wait for my doctor after a few minutes buying apples and slippers at the wet market when I saw this guy riding in his motorcycle suddenly fall from his bike in the middle of the road. Some pedestrians and I were crossing the road when we saw the accident. He was driving fast and suddenly stopped because it is a green light for pedestrians. His foot was trapped on the wheels of his motorcycle. I really shouted “ayye” when I saw it. Good thing there were other drivers following him and they helped him to the side of the road.

Sometimes no matter how careful you are, accidents happen. Yesterday, a friend of mine’s car was rear-ended by a speeding bus and he in turn was carried by his car to the car before him. He has broken glass, windows were destroyed and he said it would probably take two months to repair his car by the insurance company. His older sister was riding at the front too so they were spared on the impact of the accident at the rear of his car. Thank God.

I am always telling my kids to drive safely but those on the road along with them maybe a bit careless in driving.

I asked one of my sukis how much a kilo of onion costs.  My goodness, I was shocked. A kilo now sells at 600, even more expensive than a kilo of meat. This government is not doing anything and to think that the president is also the Secretary of Agriculture. What’s happening world? It was around 200 a few months ago. I have a mind to just use ginisa mix or magic sarap though they are not that healthy.

This government is proud about those pledges of the other nations that their president went to. ( I don’t consider him my president because he won by the magic of the SD cards). Goodness gracious, they never learn, a pledge is just a pledge until the money is in your hands. They are trying to touch even the pension plans of citizens which are being managed by the government appointees. No investment from abroad, they don’t trust him.

I wonder how those who voted for him feel now. Those cash payoffs that they received before is probably gone in a month. That IT who did the magic on the election’s result must be shaking in his boots now unless otherwise paid by the billions. It was discovered that those 20M votes counted an hour after election is not true. Our internet service providers are so slow except that one time where the voters’ count appeared in an hour.

I wonder, do we have a fake president?

We now have a law wherein we are required to register our gadgets effective yesterday. They say to avoid scam. They should have done this a few years ago. There was a time a few months back when Nissa received a request to credit my account with 20K using my Messenger. I was hacked. Good thing she works at the bank and called me up whether I really need that amount. I didn’t! Right there and then I have to change everything even including my password here at WordPress.

I use two tabs and one CP, all prepaid because I don’t want paying a line monthly which is so expensive. I seldom use my prepaid SIM when calling my kids and my brother who resides abroad.

There is always the Messenger which comes free with our monthly wi-fi subscription. You can use it wan to sawa meaning if you have a fully-charged battery, it does not matter how long you stay engaged talking on your phone.

Early this morning I tried registering all three, one Globe and two Smart. They are our service providers here. It took several tries before they were all approved. There is an allowance of 180 days to register since yesterday and a fine of a hundred thousand pesos and deactivation of your phone if you won’t. So stiff, right! But that’s maybe just to scare all those scammers around. If you are a legitimate user, this is for your safety too.

I wonder how effective this is.

Sadie

She’s one of our six doggies outside that accompanies me whenever I am in the garden. They are free to roam around the garden. In Tagalog we say, she is so malambing. When I am sitting at the ledge at our garage, she would raise her two paws and pokes me gently. I always say, massage my back please…haha! A gentle and loving Aspin.

This morning I blogged about Looking Forward to 2023. I noticed though that there are two blog posts that my friends clicked “like”, one has ten and the other has thirteen with one comment each. I wonder why, because there is only one post.

Yeay, I went out in the garden to sweep the yard and water the plants. It’s cold outside and the past mornings and late afternoons were kind of windy. I started pruning our Fukien tea plants but didn’t finish them yesterday. I was kind of lazy and sleepy too.

It’s nice to stay in bed a little late sometime. And with a hot mug of coffee, it’s wonderful. I always use Stevia nowadays. Trying to avoid sugar because of my abnormal blood glucose.

Do you keep new year resolutions? I used to but not anymore. It is never followed anyway. Unfulfilled dreams, things going haywire, health problems, political unrest etc. etc. Year 2022 was not favorable to us as a family although we were happy that my youngest brother and his wife visited us last November and stayed for two weeks. Mom could no longer recognize him. She thought he was my son Josef. We lost a younger brother last May 15 to colon cancer, the same ailment that my oldest brother and I had several years ago. He was a bit too young to die at 61.

When you think of the past days and months rapidly melting into 2023, you can’t help but think. How come that despite your efforts to stay healthy, you still have problems with your health? Unfulfilled dreams for the future are a little stressful but I am not dwelling on them that long. Prayers always help. They are my stronghold when I am happy or feeling so low.

I am looking forward to 2023. I hope it would be a good year for the whole family and the whole world. Are you looking forward to it too?
