I’ve just finished a Patricia Cornwell book called Postmortem. It was my 109th read. Fast paced and riveting. It’s a crime fiction.
This made me smile. Early this morning I saw the shout-out of one of my favorite authors Richard Paul Evans on Facebook, (we are online friends for a number of years now). His newest book is coming out on October 27 and I commented, “That’s my birthday”. And he answered, “That’s a sign Arlene”. Haha, I am excited to get hold of it, if I could find a copy here.
My reading list was derailed again. I found more lovely books which are not really lined-up for me to read until the end of the year. The Prisoner of Heaven is a continuation of Daniel’s story in the Shadow of the Wind, Marina by the same author. I am also looking forward to Memory Wall by Anthony Doerr. He is that same author of All the Light We Cannot See which won Goodreads Choice 2014. John Jakes’ The Warriors is also on the list of my TBR. Pilgrim At Tinker Creek is a memoir by Annie Dillard. It will be the first time that I’ll read one of her books. I guess I’ll start it tonight.
What have you been reading lately?
happy reading, Arlene! 🙂 🙂

Your capacity for reading is so impressive, Arlene. I haven’t finished even one book this year. I just cannot concentrate on reading at the moment.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thank you Pete, when I have nothing to do, I read. I don’t watch television but I sometimes listen to the radio.

My book group just finished “The Dressmaker’s Gift” by Fiona Valpy. Can’t remember if I mentioned that before. I think you would like it. I am also half through Jodi Picoult’s latest “Book of Two Ways” which has the intriguing exploration of the life she might have lived instead of the one she has. I used to read more of Cornwell, but then it got a little too gruesome for me. Maybe when and if the pandemic ends.

Thank you Elizabeth, I’ll look into that book. As for Jodi Picoult, I only read two of her books before, I was quite disturbed by those ailments in her books. That was the time I was having my chemo. Good morning from here.

I can imagine that going through chemo would not be a good time to read about ailments!

Thanks Elizabeth. That time, I was into reading inspiring words, poems mostly by Mary Oliver.

I like Patricia Cornwell, but haven’t read that one. I’m currently reading Aldous Huxley’s ‘Antic Hay’

I only read one book by Huxley when we were starting our book club.

Lately? I’m re-reading Sue Grafton’ Alphabet series. Love the way she writes (or used to, unfortuantely she passed away) and her main character, Kinsey Milhone

I’m currently reading Secondhand Secrets by Angela Castillo. It’s light reading – not my usual, but I’m enjoying it. My book club is reading Where the Crawdads Sing. It’s not my favorite, and I’m a little surprised that it’s had so much praise. I’ve had a hard time wanting to keep reading it. I’m also reading Christy Barritt’s Lantern Beach series which is suspense/crime and a little more fast-paced. I enjoy her characters and quirky humor. A few weeks ago, I read Last Call by James Scott Bell. That was an edge-of-your-seat crime thriller that I couldn’t read at bedtime! I released a book this week called When the Wind Blows about neighbors who are thrown together in a hurricane in Florida. I loved writing it and people say they love reading it so that’s a win-win! Happy reading!

Sorry you didn’t find Where the Crawdads Sing an enjoyable read. I just love it. Will look for When The Wind Blows, hope I could find a copy here. Thank you for the visit Laura. Keep writing.
