I’m curious now about how people in the Philippines think of “independence.” Many in the USA seem to think it means independence from *each other* — which it doesn’t. It was independence from foreign control. https://petersironwood.com/2019/07/04/the-declaration-of-interdependence/

I don’t know where we are going. The Philippines has been an independent country for 122 years. Yesterday, the president has just signed an anti-terror bill which some critics say has features not good for the people.
