Hmm…never mind the humans as long as Oreo has his stock of dog food. He just love Dentastix.

In my last post here two days ago, I told you that I am now focused on Christmas stories, those inspiring ones that bring about the beauty of celebrating Christmas. I’m done with a story about Alaska, spending Christmas in the wilderness and witnessing the northern lights. I’ve always love novels that have Alaska as their setting.
This afternoon, I was looking for some movies to watch when I saw this free movies app on my phone. I watched two actually, The Unborn and Love Alaska. What a lovely coincidence finding a still new TV movie (2019) featuring such a lovely place. I am overjoyed.
What’s happening to the Philippines? Today is the last day of the approved franchise of the largest broadcasting network, ABS CBN but the National Telecom didn’t approve their renewal. What would happen to the more than 11,000 employees of the network? It has become a victim of this government’s whims. They’d rather have the millions of viewers feel ignorant on what is happening around. To think this is the time that we badly need those up-to-date reports brought by the network. This government is abnormal and it is obvious that the reason is political.
Hay naku! When will they stop harassing people? This is what I read from an irate netizen: POGOS are allowed to operate even with unpaid 50 billion taxes. They stopped ABS CBN from operating with fully paid taxes. This is clearly anti-Filipino, anti-democracy,anti-freedom of speech.
If you must know those POGOs are illegal gambling operations run by the Chinese nationals and are protected by the government. The latter serves china more than it does the Filipino people.

48th Day

We are on day 48 of the ECQ (enhanced community quarantine).
A two-day “hard lockdown” is being imposed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on District 1 of Tondo and that is where Obet’s family live. I asked Nissa early this morning if they are prepared for it and she told me they have enough supply so far. I am really wondering what “hard lockdown” means. That means everyone could not go out of their homes for two straight days and by Wednesday they’re back on the enhanced community quarantine.
This situation either brings the best in us or the worse for that matter. There are still families who live now solely on donation and food packs given by generous individuals and their local governments. I’d like to pay our electricity bills but since there are no meter readings and no bills for April and May, I could not do so. I also need to know the phone reference number so I could pay online but that is only included in their regular billing. Since I left the bank almost twenty years ago, I enrolled all our utilities online, so convenient and so easy.
Would you believe that for the past week, I’ve been reading Christmas stories? I am on my third book actually. It is a nice change and it is more inspiring reading books with happy endings and celebrating a lovely occasion than concentrating on the disturbing news about Covid-19. Learning to cope with the times, the “new normal” so to speak.
This morning, I let Josef trimmed my hair, about an inch at the back and on the sides too. Got no choice really. The weather is hot so long hair is not practical…haha 🙂
How are you all?
What Reminds You Of Summer?

These photos made me laugh and smile and remember those long-ago summer days of my childhood. I’ve often blogged about those times we spent in the province more than half a century ago. We only migrated for good to Manila when we were all in high school because dad’s job was here.
I asked permission from one of our members at our gardening page on Facebook to copy some of her photos that reminds me of how I spent those days long, long ago. Provincial life – simple and carefree. These were during those times when internet and gadgets like cell phones, Ipads, color television were not yet in the picture and all we had was a simple transistor radio to get in touch with the world.
I used to do this too, fishing during the summer months and the early part of the rainy season. The only difference was that I used to tag along with Mom and my some of my aunts to fish in the river. We would dig earthworm and place them in empty cans with holes at the bottom, use them as baits to catch fish. Those were the days when you learned that observing silence was one activity that you enjoyed. You must learn to hold your fishing rod and feel the pull of the line once you catch something deep in the river. I remember those woven containers with cover tied to our waist where we place catch for the day. Mom and my aunties would bring either rice cakes or boiled sweet potatoes for our snack along with a bottle of water, raincoats in case it rains and extra shirt or two when we get drenched.
Would you believe that during the summer months, we did this too? Gathering firewood, those dry branches that we used for cooking. We usually bring rope to tie those we have gathered in vacant lots in our barangay. I normally would go with my cousins in the afternoon to gather firewood.
We did this too, my brothers, cousins and I, using coconut palms as sort of rides when we played. The only difference was we didn’t need someone to pull the dried palm since the place where we played was downhill. You can pull yourself down and what a joy it was. We usually come home with dirty shorts.
Here’s another one that makes me smile remembering. We called it luksong tinik. Once you hurdle that height, they make it higher by raising their hands upwards. The players are divided into two equal teams. Two players are chosen as mothers of the teams. The rest of the players are children. The mothers are supposed to be high jumpers, for the object of the game is for players to able to jump the height of the hands placed one on top of the other without touching them.
By the way, I updated my garden blog, you can see it here.
