Yeay, seems like my reading has taken a back seat. Though I still enjoy it, I am now more focused on the latest news and sometimes watch senseless (at least to me) hearings of the the Dept. of Health. This is another good for nothing secretary out there who used to say in the first few days of when news broke out about the coronavirus that it was not yet time to concern ourselves about it. This time it seems that they can’t explain to the public how they would deal with this virus. Come to think of it, we don’t even have testing kits. Pathetic! And duterte surfaced yesterday after a five-day absence, surfaces as a medical expert and seer saying it will die a natural death. Then we learned about the fatality and he said “there is a shortage of face masks because there is a virus outbreak. if there is no virus outbreak, there would be no shortage of face masks”. Few kind words from a “supposed” head of the nation (sarcasm there). They keep defending their good friend china to the detriment of our own countrymen. They are still playing politics.
I reread another children’s book last night for the nth time in between my regular reads. The magic is still there after all these years. Charlotte’s Web and The Velveteen Rabbit belong to my favorite books. A few weeks ago. I got hold of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, it is a very short story written with illustrations about a little boy and an apple tree. I love it too.
I am presently reading A Hundred Little Flames. The author, Preeti Shenoy is Indian, her work has been translated to many languages. There are several Indian bloggers here that I follow and one of them always features the beauty of Kerala which is one of the places described in the book. It is nice to learn another culture through books and blogs. A lovely way to know something beyond the border…..beautiful.
I am an Indian too.

My Dad was in the army in India for most of WW2. He told me so much about that country that I used to read a lot about it in my youth. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to visit the exotic places he told me stories about.
Best wishes, Pete.

A lovely place to base one’s stories on. I’m loving the book Pete. Good of your dad to tell you about the place.

Here the leader is so obsessed with singing his own praises that he seems oblivious to the seriousness of the pandemic.

Nothing new with all of them. They’re not really concerned with their constituents.

He’s crazy! What I can’t understand is why he still has a high satisfaction rating! And there are some people I know who still keeps on defending him and echoing his rhetoric that I will just get into a fight if I refute them.

Do you still believe in those surveys? I don’t, nababayaran din yang mga yan. There are many paid trolls by this govt.☹🤔😕

Mr. Mangahas of SWS seems to be a respectable person. I’d like to think he can’t be bribed.

Oh well, the results of their surveys are unbelievable. Survey of a mere thousand does not represents the whole picture. It is just a so miniscule number compared to the millions of us.

Statistics is a Science and I took 6 units of the subject. The small representative sample of a few thousands is good enough if done right. How it was done, and how were the questions phrased may affect the results. I’d like to believe that the respondents were scared to show that they were not satisfied with the administration than SWS cheating on the surveys.

I agree with you, took Stats since I was first year college because I majored in Economics. Perhaps their sampling is not representative of the demographics.

The children’s books you listed are some of my favorite ones too. I also love novels from India. And I especially love South Indian food! 😋

I haven’t tasted much of Indian food yet. A few years ago, a friend gifted me with a bottle of Garam Masala. I love its spicy kick. I always cook curry here.

I love all kinds of curry. South Indian food is quite spicy and consists of lots of fresh vegetables. You should make some lemon rice. I think your calamansi would work well for it.

Will consider that too. We use calamansi a lot for marinating, for sauces and for drinks.
