Today Nissa was again admitted to the UST Hospital for her one time shot of radioactive therapy. For the past two weeks her endocrinologist stopped her medication prior to her admittance but will resume after her isolation for three straight days. We can’t go there and visit her this time because of the radiation. The past days, her high TSH left her feeling weak, with ” fatigue, brain fog, muscle cramps, numbness, muscle and bone pain and bouts of uncontrollable crying and mood swings”. High TSH levels can mean your thyroid is not making enough thyroid hormones, a condition called hypothyroidism. I think it is necessary to make the treatment effective. The cost of that one-time treatment is quite expensive. She took a photo of her room which is a little bigger than the one she had before. There is another bed for a caretaker but no one in the family is allowed to stay there because of the effect of the radiation.
She sent me this photo earlier, a shot of her room at the hospital. We talked through messenger.
She is required to drink twelve liters of water during her stay. They told her to eat sour fruits too. Hospital food is sometimes too bland but this looks okay for dinner.
May I please request for your prayers for the successful treatment of my daughter? Thank you so much 🙂
Prayers are on the way. Isn’t it wondrous that God always hears?

Dearest Arlene, You can count on my prayers. Nothing can touch us more deeply than anything that happens to our children. I’m sure you are following the right treatment, no matter how hard it may be. I look forward to the day when we can all say “Salamat! Nissa is fine”. (I wish I knew more in Tagalog, like best wishes or something, but Salamat will have to do for now)

Hi Brian, I could not thank you well enough for all the gracious and uplifting words. You can just say in Tagalog, “Pagaling ka Nissa” which simply means get well soon. She still has to stay there for two more days without us by her side. It’s not allowed, she is in isolation but I get to talk to her via Messenger✌🤗🙋♀️

I understand the need for isolation. 🙂 I know people who work at the local Cancer Institute. The good thing is that there are now instant ways to communicate. I chat by Whatsapp with a friend in Penang for instance.
Soallow me to say (my newly learnt phrase):
Pagaling ka Nissa. 🙂

Don’t mention it. She will be all right. She’s young and medicine has progressed considerably. 🙂

I agree with you. Research says thyroid cancer is the most slow growing among all types and easy to treat. She had thyroidectomy two months ago and the radioactive medicine is to make sure everything is okay😉

Exactly. The radium is to wipe out whatever little remains from the surgery. It’s a bad moment to go through, but she will be ok. Bye Arlene…

I actually read this post this morning even though I am just now responding. I was about to start my morning devotions, so the timing was perfect. I am glad you can see her on your phones. That is good for Nate too. I know that the two weeks without thyroid medicine are awful, since they were for my friend’s daughter also.

Praying that the result of not taking meds would be corrected soon. Nate and Obet are so supportive. I asked Nate over the weekend to behave while her mom is not around. The typhoon here is almost all over the country. Heavy rains here in Metro Manila are expected today. Praying that it won’t be that strong🙏🙏🙏

I am sure that it will be temporary. It’s just necessary for the radioactive stuff to work. I join in prayers about the typhoon. Having your girl in the hospital and a typhoon is too much!

Thank you so much Elizabeth. Just talked to her a few minutes ago. Her salivary glands are swollen, effect of the treatment that is why she is advised to take lots of water.

Haha, at least they serve meat, fish and veggies in every meal always with fresh fruit. Nissa said they don’t serve snacks for patients undergoing radioactive meds. Last time when I was there, they always served two everyday✌

I wonder why they don’t.

The meals were substantial though according to Nissa even without the snacks.

One thing though, she is not allowed yet in the kitchen🤔

Maybe that’s it. Another effect of the medicine but I guess that is temporary.

May Nissa recover quickly and well! The treatment sounds pretty scary, but it looks like she is in good hands. An acquaintance years ago had a very similar thyroid issue and underwent radiation treatment for it. She recovered and the last I heard she’s doing well. All the best to you and your family!
