Good morning everyone!
It’s a dark Tuesday morning. There is another storm brewing in the North and heavy rains are predicted this afternoon and that include most provinces and towns in Luzon, including Metro Manila. The students are happy, most of them have no classes.
Have you ever thought how much you have shared in your blog in all the years that you have been blogging? Come to think of it, your blog becomes your online diary, the difference between having a journal is that in a blog you share what you write publicly while in a journal you probably keep it under lock and key.
We’ve talked about the weather (the easiest one to do I think), our family, hobbies, books we have read and will read in the future, politics (occasionally), we even talk about what we had for dinner or breakfast, places we’ve been to, we post lots and lots of photos we took with our high-end cameras or those convenient built-in cameras in our cell phones and tabs. We talk about the daily happenings in our lives.
Sometimes you think you have shared too much and after more than a thousand blog posts you have published, you think you have covered every subject there is to blog about. Maybe some of us even dream of publishing books out of those writings we’ve done over the years. That’s great of course but not all of us are brave enough and talented enough to pull it through.
I remember my first foray into having published something in a national daily. Years ago, I was invited to join a contest at Philippine Star sharing about how it was being an OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) family. I didn’t win, there were so many writers whose works were more meaty and interesting than what I wrote but I was paid in cash for my efforts. That was a thirty-minute of writing. The newspaper had saved them somewhere but I could no longer find the articles now. About a year after, I was again invited to share my thoughts about our former President Cory Aquino when she died, how she affected my life as an individual and as a citizen of our country. Then came the newspaper’s anniversary and I again contributed a few lines to congratulate them. I no longer subscribe to the newspaper now since I could always take a look online, some fresher news to read.
There are still bylines that I read regularly online at Philippine Star. I love how Barbara Gonzales writes her articles weekly. She’s married now (again), she’s in her mid-seventies when she got married for the second time. Her kids have grown and she enjoys her moments teaching writing at home and doing beadworks.
How do you spend your free time aside from blogging of course? How do you make those moments memorable?
I work full time, so I have to cram a lot into the evenings and weekends, but I love crocheting. That is normally my evening pass time.. especially because it’s winter right now. In summer it’s gardening and we normally have a piece of furniture that we are up-cycling. When its a bit warmer out, we will probably start with our dining furniture. 😀

I used to do that – crocheting small items like phone cases, I have tried cross-stitching too but now my eyes could no longer decipher some of the patterns. I love gardening too and taking shots of the flowers blooming there. Wow, furniture up-cycling? That’s really nice. Thanks again for the visit.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of rain Arlene….
When I’m stuck inside. Most of the time these days as I await my test results and scans…… I like to do my housework, tidying and cleaning, and of course I like to write my poetry, and probably do some submissions for magazine publications, which are quite time consuming….
Have a restful day Arlene xx

Thank you so much Ivor. I hope it won’t be that much but we are also having monsoon rains here. May the rest of the week be restful to you too Ivor.

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, because we try to eat healthy food that tastes good. Right now, after our morning walk, I pull weeds for about an hour. That is never-ending! I’ve promised myself I’ll read a chapter a day of a book and sight read at least four pages of music. The last two things have limited my time playing two games on my phone — Free Cell and Pressed for Words. We’ve tried to have one day out a week when David has a day off from work. Today we went to the arboretum and enjoyed it a lot. There is never enough time to do everything I’d like to do. How can anyone be bored with retirement???

Yes Anne, retirement time, doing those we have put off doing for years. At least now you have time to garden even just for a little while. I don’t play games online or on my phone, I easily get bored. And you’re right, time for the family is important.

I rarely get bored, as I have a dog! Also a lot of time is spent writing, blogging, and watching films. I tend to save my reading until bedtime, when I have no distractions.
Best wishes, Pete.

Lovely ways to spend your free time, right Pete? Except for watching films, we have almost the same hobbies. I listen to music instead.

Congratulations on being published, even if prizeless. My blog is indeed my diary – and very useful as an aid memoir 🙂

You keep busy, Arlene! I enjoy a lot of the same activities as you do, such as reading, gardening, listening to music, watching movies, writing and blogging. I also love traveling, bird watching, photography, cooking and watercolor painting. Our blogs do document our lives and of course interactions with other bloggers, both near and far. Great post, Arlene! 🙂

Thanks Sabine, such lovely hobbies you have there. I am not much into watching movies. Haven’t watched one in the cinema for more than a decade now.

I rarely go to the movies these days. We watch them on Netflix. Much easier and not as expensive.

I’ve watched some programs I used to watch growing up in Germany on YouTube. It’s nice to be able to have so many options now!

I watch old music groups there. Back in the 60’s, the British Invasion groups were simply the best.
