Allow me this, at least for a while. I might look strong on the outside but my heart is bleeding in the inside.
I mourn, yes, I mourn for my country.
Yesterday, they nailed the coffin for good. The end of democracy. It’s supposedly the last bastion to protect the Filipino people and yet the Commision on Election chose to proclaim all the twelve administration bets despite the clamor for manual count, despite the various anomalies that happened a week ago – defective SD cards, videos of election registrars filling in and shading empty ballots, 7-hour glitch in transferring the results from various precincts, malfunctioning Vote Counting Machines and many, many more. This election is a farce. And I guess there is no legitimacy in an election where the commissioners themselves who are tasked to protect the ballots break the rules. Some people said that this is the first time in the history of the Philippines in an election where not even one opposition bet won. In the local level, the opposition won in various areas but in the national level, they all lost. It makes no sense to me.
Instead of bringing back those millions of pesos back to the government, they allowed the thieves to come back to the Senate. Think of this – a senator who wholehearted supported those extra-judicial killings, a thief, a loyal photographer/selfie maker/follower to a president with no previous experience in politics, not even in the barangay level, someone who started campaigning a year before the election was held and the Comelec turned a blind eye, a former president’s daughter whose credentials are all fake, a good-for-nothing come-backing senator who did practically nothing in the past. They are complete, complete crooks if I may say.
Allow me to quote a few words from other netizens who are equally concerned with what is happening in our country.
They’re written in the vernacular but let me just translate it in the simplest way. Bato dela Rosa on illegal chinese workers “if they are illegal, make them legal”. Bong Go (the famous alalay), “I will put up a department of OFW”. Bong Revilla (the come-backing senator) “if not for that budots dance, I won’t win”.
There was this poem published by the Thinking Class of the Philippines. Philippines, it is hard to love you.
The president has been absent from the limelight since the day of the election last May 13. There are rumors that he was rushed to the hospital because of heart attack. I wonder why they are keeping mum on this when it is stated in the Constitution that the people has the right to know the physical health of a governing person.
And I wonder, why hold on to power even when you are not fit enough to govern. I call that extreme greed.
How sad this is. Days are so dark lately that it’s hard to keep hoping and working for change. But please know you’re not alone.
I take days “off” to recharge my energy and restore my spirit. Our health and balance are so important if we’re to help the world hang on and not lose sight of its beauty and potential.
My prayers are with you, Arlene.

What I realized when I campaigned for the 8D were that many would like to vote for them but did not register as they didn’t take the time or effort or were hopeless that things will improve no matter who wins; too old for social media, they didn’t know the issues or didn’t even know who comprised the 8D (good thing I have my flyers); people would vote for those who helped them with their medical or financial needs even if these candidates were obviously corrupt because of utang na loob; many do not read legitimate newspapers and relied on hearsay or fake news which makes me wonder what Pnoy or Mar Roxas did to be bashed so; many do not know how to translate their religiosity to morality.that they would vote for a charismatic candidate who is no good.

Those are valid points you raised. Some were mind-conditioned by fake news in the case of Mar Roxas who they said is magnanakaw. Some are just plain ignorant on what is happening around. Some just don’t care….so indifferent as long as they are personally affected.

For different, less frightening perhaps, reasons our democracy is also going to the dogs

It seems that the democratic process is collapsing the world over, Arlene. I fear we have darker days to come.
Best wishes, Pete.

I am just wondering why people, mostly those politicians, have become so ambitious that they’ll sell their souls to get and stay at the top.

In these times of great change world wide there are many people who want a dictator to be in charge. It is extremely sad to realize that people will also trade their souls to be told what to do.

I like the idea that the world is in the womb, not the tomb! Waiting to be reborn, not dead.

I am very sorry about the electoral outcome of your elections, Arlene! It frightens me to see this kind of power grabbing all across the world. Democracy is in serious trouble! I have a hard time understanding how people can vote for certain candidates, especially the authoritarian, dictator types. We have big problems here too, but not as bad as what’s going on in your country. One thing I have found is that way too many people are uneducated as to what their vote might result in in their lives. Before our 2016 election, way too many people got their “news” from Facebook and never bothered to check on the truth and facts! Sad indeed, for all of us!

I am almost on the verge of giving up but I love my country. It’s the people around who are abusing it. I hate to think that this is now the new norm for this government, believing in lies, living in lies and hiding the truth. Thank you so much Sabine. I appreciate this.

It’s not too different here, but it’s hard to gage what is happening in reality because we don’t get truthful and transparent information anymore like we used to. I’ve noticed that standards for good behavior, being honest and a good citizen are no longer the norm. Sending you a big hug! 💐

Thanks Arlene! The way things are going here I’m getting more concerned too. I get stressed out just watching the news!

I don’t watch the news. I don’t even read newspapers. I always visit social media, you can see the pro and the anti sentiments there 🙂
