I noticed a couple of days ago that WordPress has removed the spellcheck. What happened? I always use it even if I know that there is no grammar error or wrong spelling in my post. It was very helpful.
So WordPress has this to say:
We removed the feature as it has become a bit redundant lately. Most major web browsers have some form of this already built-in, and free extensions like https://www.grammarly.com/ are making huge strides in the field.
It felt like the right time to back out of that field and focus more on everything else we offer.
Are you missing it too?
Yes. I am.Wordpress is a stand-alone. There is no way my browser can spell check anything on WordPress. I said today that I was a little burnt out posting everyday. This may be one more nail in the coffin.

We don’t need to go to another site to do that I think.

I don’t understand. There is no way to use spell check on WordPress because it is a stand a lone site. The only thing to do is write some place else and cut and paste. Not me. As I’ve written, I’m a little burnt out now. Add more to my WordPress work and I’ll walk away.

It had its use at least. I don’t do copy and paste. I type my post directly here. There are times though that somehow, you have typed the same words twice or used another language and that’s there spellcheck comes in.

I agree. I think that’s how most of us work.

You made me smile at 7 a.m Spanish time. Yes mam, I too was also wondering where in the world is the spellchek. So I just write with too many errors, actually it does piss me off.

It got lost because WordPress deleted it. Thank you charlypriest.

I was not aware it had gone, as I never used it. I do correct as I go along, though most are typing errors, not spelling ones. Such spell-checks can be annoying for English people, as they always defer to ‘American spelling’, and not proper English.
Best wishes, Pete.

I understand Pete. I am more used to the American words though. What I don’t like about it is that words are underlined when I type them in Tagalog which is understandable.

It has always annoyed me because it often altered perfectly good words not in its own dictionary which we could not supplement

Haha! I find it useful though because sometimes without knowing I type a word twice.

i didn’t even notice it was gone Arlene. that’s sucks because it is very useful.

I always used it before clicking publish aside of course from editing my posts.

I copy and paste from a word processor, so I was not dependent on spell check here. I would miss it in comments. A few words ago, I typed in gibberish, and it was underlined. At least they haven’t taken that away!

I don’t use a word processor Anne. There will be more changes as we go along. WordPress has introduced and removed apps since I started blogging.

Kudos to you for hanging on, Arlene. You are a wonderful example to follow.

I must have some add-on because mine keeps on spell checking.

Some don’t use it but as I’ve said even if I knew that there was no mistake on what you’ve written, you can never tell. My experience is that one couldn’t be that good an editor when you have written it.

Yep! I’m missing it! I honestly thought I’d gone bonkers and it had just been moved! I tried everything I could think of to find it! They could have made more of an announcement tho! Xx

I don’t think they’d do that, announce that it has been removed. Well anyway, we could always learn to adjust without it.

No, I don’t use it with WordPress. I do proofread everything several times though.😉

Sometimes even after editing and proofreading it,we even miss a word or misspell one.
