Happy Feast of the Epiphany!
Christmas season has just ended. It’s something that I look forward to every year. No matter what the circumstances, the event is just so wonderful. Not every one of us of course enjoy celebrating it, what with the attached commercialism to its celebration. Allow me to say for the last time early this year. “Merry Christmas”.
Until next December.
Bearing gifts, we traverse far
Field and fountain
Moor and mountain
Following yonder star
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading
Still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light….”
May the rest of the year be a fruitful, joyful, peaceful and a happy one for us. So many things to discover, so many things to explore.
What is your gift to the world?

Now it’s Carnival time and we get to eat king cake. Mmmmmm.

Hi Ray, enjoy! What’s a king cake?

It’s like a brioche covered with white, yellow, green and purple frosting. There is a baby inside who represents the Baby Jesus. By New Orleans tradition, the person who gets the baby buys the next cake. They are only available after the Twelfth Night.

The French started it, I believe. Carnival and Mardi Gras is always thought to be about drinking too much and partying. The truth is that it starts on The Twelfth Night and ends on the day before Ash Wednesday. For those of us who live in New Orleans, it’s sort of another Christmas when friends and family visit. In our house we host a brunch, on the second Sunday of parade season (mostly the last two weeks). People come over, visit and walk a couple of blocks to see Mardi Gras parades.

The only way this is noted in our house is that it’s time to take down the decorations, and put away the tree until next year. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

That is actually one of my very favorite days. We take down all decorations after it. It was fun to see our neighbors also put their Christmas trees at the curb yesterday for the town to pick up and make into mulch.

We took down our decorations a day earlier since Sunday is always a busy one for my son. He always help me with the Christmas decor.
