Yesterday, amidst all those news about Sen. Trillanes, this came up on my news feed. We Filipinos know that inflation is rising since Duterte took office more than two years ago but this is an overwhelming and sad scenario. Why we have come to this, your guess is as good as mine. The ordinary Filipino is finding it hard to make both ends meet.
Imagine, we are the highest in the region. And that lowly poor’s man’s meal galunggong is now being imported. To think we are surrounded by hundreds of islands yet we import fish that came from our own shores. We are an agricultural country and we are importing rice too. Back in the sixties and seventies, we were even teaching how rice should be successfully grown via the International Rice Research Institute. Other Southeast Asian regions have benefited from research and technology but where are we now? Our poor farmers are still struggling.
Going back to this inflation rate, some people think that the higher the percentage is, the more robust is our economy. I say, they don’t even read and understand the news.
Sad Philippines.
This is so sad. My heart is with you.

So sad to read how your country is suffering. I am sad about the course both our countries are on, Arlene.

Yes Kitty, our grandchildren would suffer in the future too. The Philippines is a third world country and it may take decades before we can go back to where we’ve been. Thanks!

The Australian inflation rate is 2.3%, which is high enough but yours of 6.45% is very high by the regions standards, and it should definitely be a lot lower, and there needs to be a lot of work done by the government to get it down…

The economy is not their priority Ivor, sad to say. They’d rather pursue their political enemies.

That’s selfish and sad for your country.

We have to import gg because DU30 is not fighting for our right in the West Philippine Sea which is why the Chinese coastguards are driving away our fishermen.
And despite complaints of rising prices esp. from the poor, he went on a junket to Israel and Jordan bringing with him 400 people esp his precious Mocha!

It’s too much and his presidential budget for next year was increased by a hundredfold but he decreased the budget of those which are more important to the people.

Sadly, it does seem as if your country is about to fall into a serious financial crisis. I can only send my hope that something changes in time, and spares you any hardship.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thank you Pete. As long as there are no economic changes soon, inflation would still rise. Foreign investors are not comfortable with duterte. And he would rather go on trips with 400 entourage than take care of the problems in the home front. As I have said before, the growth of the economy is not their priority. We have pressing problems and yet he dared to revoke Sen. Trillanes’ amnesty
instead which most lawyers say is illegal and unconstitutional. That is his answer to our problems here. He is still in Jordan, I hope he doesn’t come back.

Life is hard enough without having to deal with inflation. I’m sorry this is going on in your country.
