I just can’t help but remember those days when every day Mom and I would sit in front of the television and watch the impeachment proceedings of Chief Justice Renato Corona back in the first quarter of 2012. Notebook in hand, I would take notes and blog about it later. I even encountered a student who commented that she was looking for some analysis on the hearings and found my blog. They probably studied them in school too and maybe copying and pasting was the easiest way.
They keep comparing the removal of chief Justice Sereno via a Quo Warranto which was deemed unconstitutional. Corona was given his day in court while CJ Sereno did not even have the chance to defend herself. Those justices who voted her out are all tentacles of the present administration.
Perhaps the whole world knows about the president’s penchant for cursing and demeaning women, not respecting other people having different opinions from him. He called them his enemies and of course those who he appointed in office some of whom have been lately discovered dealing in anomalous transactions. A foreign secretary who is “bulag, pipi at bingi“. A biased ear won’t listen and he would keep silent on things that need his decisions.
It is so frustrating when every day you would read something unpalatable, add that to the fact that the president is kowtowing to China preferring the exorbitant interests on the country’s loans from the latter. The Philippine peso exchange rate is at its lowest in 12 years. That TRAIN (Republic Act RA 10963 or Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion) law which according to a senator didn’t even read before signing is a heavy burden to us all ordinary citizens. Just imagine the price of gasoline and basic commodities jacking up beyond the reach of the poor and ordinary citizens.
I wish I could just concentrate on my gardening and reading but one can’t help but be affected in one way or another. I hate to do political blog but as they say in Tagalog, “sukdulan na”. It is nearing the end of the rope.
Where are we going Philippines???
It does seem that your country is building up to a real crisis, Arlene. I hope that you can get a better government before it’s too late.
Best wishes, Pete.

I will join your prayers. I had never given much thought to your corner of the world before I read your blog. Now I care a great deal about what happens there.

Thank you, thank you so much. It seems like we need a brave man/woman to start it all before those passive fellow countrymen would wake up from all these. Before we had Cardinal Sin and Cory Aquino to rally everyone so we had the People Revolution back in 1986. I think this is worse than the Marcos regime.

Arlene, I got this new follower today.

Telling me how to find a bride in your country, it seems. I think it is sad that some women there appear to feel that they have to marry a foreigner to ‘escape’. The company even arranges tours, to ‘inspect ‘ the women on offer.
Best wishes, Pete.

Our most recent priest has moved here from the Philippines, and now everyone around here is taking a greater interest in it. Thank you for sharing what things are like on the inside.

Yes, our country is going to the dogs, but the DDS won’t admit that. They are always ready to defend their crazy idol! In two years time, inflation has never been this high during Pnoy’s whole term, the peso has depreciated considerably and the stock market is down. And worse of all, the culture of impunity, vulgarity and the ignoring the rule of law is so evident now.

Every time I open my FB, I see news of corruption among his alipores. Is that all we can do, comment and post links? I hope there is someone brave enough like Cardinal Sin before. Nakakaawa naman tayo, pati economy natin lubog na, napabayaan na ng husto. O di ba, he said he does not believe in the constitution when it is the same thing that placed him there. That’s treason.

There’s Bishop Socrates Villegas and Cardinal
Tagle and of course, Fr. Robert Reyes. But it is different now as many do not hold the priests and the Catholic church with high regard or respect as in Cardinal Sin’s time. See how the DDSs laughed when Du30 disrespected Pope Francis.

Iba na ang panahon ano? Some are just apathetic. They might be aware of what is happening but they don’t care as long as they are not personally affected. Nakakaawa tayo.
