It’s been a while.
Barangay elections (the lowest level in the govt.) has just been held the other day. It is quite disappointing that some candidates still adhere to vote-buying. My gosh, where will your P500 pesos go after you have elected a corrupt and crooked official of the land? Imagine, even in the lowly rural areas, people look up to those candidates with empty promises.
A few days ago, our chief justice Sereno was ousted by her own colleagues in the Supreme Court. A sad day for the land. Is justice dead? Now that the integrity of the highest court of the land is compromised, can we expect anything good from them? They voted 8-6 in favor of her ouster. And those belonging to the eight are the same accusers and judges. How’s that again? I am not a lawyer but I understand the Constitution said, only the Senate could remove a sitting chief justice via impeachment but those supposedly esteemed judges went ahead and voted for the quo warranto petition.”Quo warranto is a special form of legal action used to resolve a dispute over whether a specific person has the legal right to hold the public office that he or she occupies”. Quo warranto is only applicable within a year after the chief justice was appointed but Sereno has been on the job for almost six years and it is only now that they thought of it? They had no complaints when she was appointed. And take note, the daughter of one of those eight justices is now appointed in a government position. Favors rendered is now paid for. How sad 😦 Oh yes, Duterte openly declared that Sereno is his enemy. Who’s next? The legitimate vice-president? I think they would remove all those who are critical and opposed to this administration. Bongbong Marcos who is the loser in the last election wants to replace VP Leni Robredo and eventually be the next president when Duterte hands over the reigns to him. The Marcoses’ money (ill-gotten wealth) is working to their advantage.
When you think of what is happening here, it seems like a hopeless case. Why is it that the president says he will eradicate corruption and yet most of those he appoints are corrupt? Every day, you would see news which is unpalatable. He even says that China will defend him and won’t let him be removed from office. What has China got to do with our internal affairs. He embraces them with open arms but is hostile to those countries willing to help?
Politics seem to be in dire straits everywhere!

Yes, it is a sad day for Democracy when CJ Sereno was ousted! It is very obvious that it is “lutong macau” and she was removed by justices who have personal motives and friendly to DU30. What do we do next aside from praying?

There is no one like Cardinal Sin to rally all those critical of what they are doing. Some people are apathetic, passive to the point of indifference. As long as they are not personally affected, they are just watching on the sidelines. I think we should also make noise even through social media.

Some of my friends are even too timid to like my social media posts critical of the administration, and some are not even updated on the current events. Our religious org leader who is a manager of a big company even asked me what’s the meaning of “EJK”. How can we oppose the wrongdoing if we do not even know what’s happening?

When we all act apathetic, and seemingly indifferent to what is happening around, wala talagang mangyayari. Should we just allow them na palubugin lalo ang Pilipinas? Maybe, the ouster of Sereno will trigger our sleeping kababayans na gumalaw din. Ako nagpo post din pati ng mga links sa social media. so far, none of my friends are opposed to it. They even make comments and most of them are critical of this govt.

Sounds even worse that the situation in Europe. At least we don’t have vote-buying, although big business secures their interests with massive donations.
Best wishes, Pete.

They do that here too Pete, big corporations donate large amount to the kitty of the candidates. As for the vote-buying thing, the poorest of the poor are sometimes so gullible to believe in false promises. They don’t know that their votes is their future.

I’m afraid this kind of thing is going in way too many places! We have our version of this here too. I just can’t understand how so many politicians can be so corrupt and dishonest, especially after “promising” to be honest and for the people!

Signs of the times Sabine? What do you think? For them, money is powerful. It’s happening the world over. Decades ago, politicians could be called honorable, not anymore. They are corrupt from the highest down to the lowest level.

Never thought that I would ever miss “the good old days”. Scary times we live in! But I do believe that in the end, the good has to win out!

Yes, we are praying and hoping for that, the triumph of good over evil.
And yes we now live in scary times.

May vote buying kasi may nagbebenta. Tsk tsk.
