It seems like I have to reorganize my garden after they’re done removing the Thai bamboo, installing the steel matting on our fence and repainting the fence and the steel matting that they will install.
My potted plants are lined up along the wall so everything has to be moved. Others have rooted in the ground so re-potting is a must too. Busy, busy summer!
Had a general cleaning in my bedroom and changed the sheets and curtains. My gosh, it is so hot but this is that perfect time to clean and re-organize. My garden would probably look “brand new” after this 🙂
Summer is usually a busy month for carpenters and construction workers. Lot owners choose summer months to have their houses built taking advantage of the days when there is no rain. I had a hard time finding one. His rate is sky-high and he doesn’t accept payment on a daily basis but chose instead “the pakyawan” where you have to pay a certain amount until he finishes the scope of work at hand. “Pakyawan” is more costly than paying the worker on a daily basis but you are assured that they will finish the job. One thing though, you’ll provide all the materials needed.
I think that when you begin some renovations in the house, there is always a chance that you would have to think of other things that they could do after and it involves more funding…haha!
Having had our kitchen rebuilt we know just what you mean about other projects, if only to be in keeping with the kitchen 🙂

Haha, the more it takes longer, the more you think of other small projects to be done. Thanks Derrick!

I hope you enjoy your ‘new’ garden, Arlene. That method of payment sounds unusual. Here, we tend to agree a price for the job beforehand, then only pay in full once it is completed.
Best wishes, Pete.

Oh, you have to give them a portion of the agreed price every day until the job is done. Some workers rely on their daily wage to make both ends meet.

I’m looking forward to seeing your brand new garden, Arlene.

Not exactly brand new Nahla, just perhaps replanting some more finding corners for my potted plants.

Your garden will be very nice once it’s all done! We are starting some renovations at our house and hope it will go smoothly. Finding reliable and competent workers can be a challenge, even here. Hopefully the weather will cool off soon so that you can sit outside and enjoy the new look!

Thank you Sabine. the days ahead would surely be busy ones for me. I hope they can finish the painting of our fence today so I could start with overhauling my garden.

Once all of that is done, you’ll probably feel like a million dollars! Plus you get to enjoy the results!

I sure hope so. It’s a back-breaking job. Summer exercise…haha!

Indeed! Same here! Getting my exercise too moving dirt around and trying to keep the weeds under control. Such is life! 😉

Gardening is a serious job but the rewards are really priceless. I’ll take advantage of the sunny weather here before rainy season starts next month.

Are you growing any veggies?

Yes I do, my eggplants are flowering now, so with the bell peppers. My bottle gourds are fruiting now so with our two jackfruit trees. I have some jute and okra growing alongside my pineapple plants.

Nice! Homegrown pineapple! 😋 I just planted my tomatoes yesterday. Friday I will go to a plant sale at the local college. Their horticultural students grow all kind of things and then on the Friday before Mother’s Day they put on their annual sale. They have great plants, small shrubs, herbs and veggies too. Plus the prices are very reasonable. I’ve been going for 12 years!

Wow, it must be nice choosing the veggies that you want. It is a good thing you have something like that in your area. I love herbs but I haven’t tried others yet except basil and turmeric and that was years ago.

Yes, I feel very lucky to have access to something like that. Do you grow tomatoes?

I think I have one or two shrubs of it.

Tomatoes are cheap in the market at the moment so I don’t grow much of it. I would love to have cherry tomatoes though, the sweet ones. What we have in the market is not sweet.

I grow both! The tomatoes at the store don’t taste like anything. I preserve some of them for winter. This year I’m growing a “white pink stripe” tomato. I can hardly wait to try it in the summer.

Wow, I’ve seen black ones at our group on FB. I don’t know how they taste. You are lucky to have those in your garden.

Yes I am! Can you buy the seeds where you are?

I haven’t tried yet, maybe there are some in the market. Will look for them soon.

I know about projects growing into bigger ones. We once had a leaky bathroom faucet but no parts were available since it was 80 years old. Then we had to get a whole new set to be up to code. Then the floor broke when they put the bathtub back so we had to get a new tub. We call it our very very expensive leaky faucet.

Yes, we always have those unplanned repairs which we only see and notice when some workers are around.

Happens to me too, whenever I finish a house project, I notice a few more needs to be done. 🙂

They never end Amy, sad to say. The original budget becomes double the amount.

It sounds like your garden area is going to be nice once all the work is done, Arlene. I like paying at the time the job is done here in the US. At least I know the work will be completed. Enjoy the new season and your flowers. 🙂

I hope so too Diana, that is, if I’ll be able to arrange my plants nicer than before. I need additional pots and garden soil. Our compost pit is not ready yet.

It will be beautiful. And how fun to be playing outside (when it’s not too hot).

I did a little gardening early this morning outside , pulled stubborn weeds etc. A neighbor gave me some plants that need more pots so I have to go to the hardware store to buy some.

Have fun. We have a little sunshine today, so I might take advantage as well. 🙂

I had to redo my vegetable garden this year. It was a lot of work, but well worth it! It’s more efficient. Though are we ever done redoing it? Hahaha. There’s always something that needs changing, fixing, revamping. Good luck with yours. Have a great weekend. Koko 🙂

Thank you Koko, I am still in the middle of it. I bet your garden is looking nice now.

My vegetable garden has been producing well enough that I haven’t had to buy anything but onions! So nice to save a little money! 🙂
