And may I say goodbye again to an old month and say hello to June?

Been doing this for quite sometime now,  remembering the days past and looking forward to the days ahead. Except for the wedding we attended during the first week of the month and a couple  of  times  going to the mall for shopping  and dinner, May was quite uneventful. But of course family day once a month is always something we all look  forward to. Never mind if  we just stay at home most of the time and catch up on family news.  There is always something we’ve missed during Viber calls and text messages.

I was thrilled seeing the short videos  and various photos which Nissa took of their three-day vacation in Baler the other week.  Nate is becoming adventurous. At an early age, he is learning to appreciate places and Nature.

Look at how excited he was to discover the place. Last Saturday he told me casually that they were going to Mall of Asia after their visit here and our conversation went this way:

“I haven’t been to Mall of Asia yet,” I said

He answered, “Come with us next time, I’ll tell Mommy about it”.

“I’ve seen the place but I’ve never been inside yet”.

“It’s a big, big place”,  he said.

I think I don’t need to go there just to see it because there are so many nearby malls in our place and they have the same stores that the Mall of Asia have.

Speaking of Baler, I rather like this serene look of the place.  Seeing the sea always makes me feel at peace.

Imagine yourself waking up to this lovely scenery  and  loving the fresh air. Imagine yourself transported to a beautiful place with not a care in the world. I do, sometimes.

I guess, we have to endure another month of humid weather but maybe not as hot as the month of May. It rains in the afternoon in some places but not in our area.  Sometimes it is cloudy.

I wish you all a very happy new month. May it bring you more blessings in life. Fill that blank page with lovely memories. Write that beautiful story. Fill it with love.

Hello June!

Baler

As we walk our individual life journeys, we pick up resentment and hurts, which attach themselves to our souls like burrs clinging to a hiker’s socks. These stowaways may seem insignificant at first, but, over time, if we do not occasionally stop and shake them free, the accumulation becomes a burden to our souls. – richard paul evans

Planted some cuttings of Bougainvillea early this morning. I really hope they would grow healthy. Sometimes it is hard to grow plants from cuttings.

Had some time with Oreo and our other pet Noki.  Love these lazy moments playing with the dogs while drinking a hot cup of coffee.

Camera shy Oreo. I could not see your eyes. A few more days to go and you’ll have a puppy cut.

Noki loves posing for the camera.

Enjoying some moments at the garden.

Oreo is curious while Noki is not even looking.

According to the vet, Oreo is overweight….haha!

It is hard to take a photo of Oreo, he is so playful.  He couldn’t stay quiet for a while except when he is asleep.

I was looking for this photo since I’ve seen it yesterday. Marawi  is now a year older since its bombing a year ago and yet, those people affected cannot go back to a place heavily destroyed.  He dared the Maute group to come. They did and destroyed the city. Now he wants Chinese companies to get the contract of rebuilding instead of our very own capable kababayan.

I just can’t help but remember those days when every day Mom and I would sit in front of the television and watch the impeachment proceedings  of Chief Justice Renato Corona back in the first quarter of 2012. Notebook in hand, I would take notes and blog about it later. I even encountered a student  who commented that she was looking  for some analysis on  the hearings and found my blog. They probably studied them in school too and maybe copying and pasting was the easiest way.

They keep comparing the removal of chief Justice Sereno via a Quo Warranto which was deemed unconstitutional. Corona was given his day in court while CJ Sereno did not even have the chance to defend herself. Those justices who voted her out are all tentacles of the present administration.

Perhaps the whole world knows about the president’s penchant for cursing and demeaning women, not respecting other people having different opinions from him. He called them his enemies and of course those who he appointed in office some of whom have been lately discovered dealing in anomalous transactions. A foreign secretary who is “bulag, pipi at bingi“. A biased ear won’t listen and he would keep silent on things that need his decisions.

It is so frustrating when every day  you would read something unpalatable, add that to the fact that the president is kowtowing to China  preferring the exorbitant interests on the country’s loans from the latter.  The Philippine peso exchange rate  is at its lowest in 12 years.  That TRAIN   (Republic Act RA 10963 or Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion) law which according to a senator didn’t even read before signing is  a heavy burden to us all ordinary citizens. Just imagine the price of gasoline and basic commodities  jacking up beyond the reach of the poor and ordinary citizens.

I wish I could just concentrate on my gardening and reading but one can’t help but be affected in one way or another. I hate to do political blog but as they say in Tagalog, “sukdulan na”. It is nearing the end of the rope.

Where are we going Philippines???

You allow me to be what I am

I don’t need to hide

I don’t need to pretend

If there are words

That I never get tired of saying,

“I’m glad, you are my friend”.

Good morning everyone!

For the past four days, I really didn’t feel like blogging. Still lazy to blog, from time to time though I make comments on my favorite blogs and like my friends’ posts.  I don’t know why really, blogging  has taken a backseat for a while.

Yesterday, the family was complete  with Mom, Nissa’s family, Josef and Jovy. It was a lovely family day for us.  Enjoyed playing with Nate when Nissa and Obet went to our family dentist for a while after lunch. Since he has few toys here at home, we always play  with some blocks and his tiny dinosaurs. He seemed contented though even with those, so few to choose from. They don’t always bring some of his toys when they come to visit us.  Bath time is usually playtime too for both of us. Nissa said  Nate is happy when they are here because he could take a bath at least twice before they go home.   We both picked kalamansi for them to bring home. When he saw my mini-watering can for my hanging plants, he filled it with water and watered my shamrocks and shrimp plants.  He even asked his mom to buy him one too so he could use it at home.

I took some shots while he was busy playing.

The other week,  they went to Baler,  the capital of Aurora province which is located 231 kilometers north-east of Manila.  Nate told me about visiting  waterfalls, swimming, eating and eating. There was a place there where Nissa said is more of a zigzag than the roads going to Baguio City.

Sunrise at Baler

The hotel where they stayed  faces this lovely beach where you could watch the sunrise from your window or go out and submerge you feet in the sand.  She brought me so many “pasalubongs”, gifts from Baler including some key chains  that I collect and refrigerator magnet.  We had a lovely time viewing all the photos they took of the place.

Yesterday, she also brought her Mother’s Day gift for me, a lovely SAKURA Longchamp bag. I  used to collect bags, I don’t always get the chance to use them all but this one I like.  It is for everyday use and so convenient for those items which normally won’t fit a small bag. She knows I always bring an umbrella, my cellphone and tab when I go out.

Today is Holy Trinity Sunday. Attended the early morning mass alone. Mom attends the Sunday TV mass.

Have a nice week ahead.

Yesterday.

We were able to get our EMV cards at the bank. We have to wait for Jovy to come home so she could drive us there.

There are always long lines both at the counters and  at the customer service booths. I have to approach one of their officers and introduced myself as a former employee of BPI. She immediately looked for the replacement cards and let Mom sign hers but I have to replace the PIN numbers for both cards at the ATM machine.

We went to SM East Ortigas later to have early dinner at  the Classic Savory Chicken.   Mom  said that the place was familiar so I told her, we had eaten there before. We dined on buttered chicken, pork chops, pancit canton, chop suey,  crab and corn soup.  Oreo is now allowed to eat veggies like carrots and chayote and minced chicken liver too so we had to separate them and put them in a glass of water to remove the flavor before he could eat them.  He loved the veggies.  We also ordered dinner for Josef and brought it home with us.

Tired.

Started trimming the grass as soon as it is light.Wow, it has grown after more than a month. Went back to the garden around 4 PM. Planted another packet of Zinnia today. I hope they would sprout in a week. I noticed while I was weeding, there are new shoots of my Vinca, probably from the flowers that have fallen to the ground. I am envisioning how this would all look when they bloom.

I gave our neighbor bottle gourd. There are more  than ten of them on our trellis in different sizes.  Did you know that there are amazing benefits of bottle  gourd?  It is  a vegetable often ignored by many but it acts as a diuretic, improve digestion and prevents constipation.  It also reduces risk of urinary infection and lowers blood sugar levels. Since it is low in calories, it also aids in weight loss. There are also so many ways to cook it.

Finally.

I can now update my reading. Just done with a book about nature and biodiversity. The importance of a healthy natural environment. ” Biodiversity is in decline all over the world. The number of species of animals, plants and microorganisms is decreasing”. I hope to see our little sparrows moving back to the garden again.  I miss their sweet voices early in the morning.

Don’t you just love Dr. Seuss?  And I love these  too:

“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

You might think it’s all about nursery rhymes and children’s books  but there is a lot of truth to what he says.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. – Reinhold Niebur

Staying here and gazing at that serene river gives me a  feeling of peace. No matter how hard life is, there is always something to look  forward to. Life in all its ugly realities,  is a learning curve that teaches us the meaning of joys, happiness and tears.  God always gives us a vista of things that we somehow overlook – a sunrise to greet our mornings, a stunning sunset to calm us after a days’ work, clouds that seem to float like cotton candies in a bright blue sky, green mountains as far as your eyes could see. What more could you ask for?

Lord, thank You for  this lovely morning. Thank  You for Today. Thank You for Life.
