I found this lovely video about Mabini early this morning. I was born here and lived at the place until I was eleven. Mabini is a third class town in Western Pangasinan famous for its caves.
See the wooden bridge? We had a similar bridge like that when I was in grade school, now we have concrete one going to our place. The town hall was designed by my architect brother and he also undertook the renovation of the town’s health center. The mayor, Carlitos Reyes is our cousin.
Thank you traveldotcom for this lovely video. I enjoyed watching it. Haven’t gone home since December 2010.
So long since you went home, Arlene.. that’s a shame. It looks like an interesting place, especially those caves.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes, it’s been so long. Mom and my younger brother’s family still live there. Would love to go back home again one of these days, maybe when Nate is a little older.

Quite interesting. Yes. Water. Just starting with running water in every home. (What almost no westerner can imagine. They have forgotten how it was)
7 years? Go home. Even for a few days. I’m sure it will make you happy. (And your family and friends)

Thank you. Planning to one of these days. I don’t want to go home during the rainy season.

Understandably so. Again, people who do not have a monsoon or a rainy season like we have here, won’t understand. I do. (Though we have had good weather, and the rains are important for crops, can’t wait for the rains to subside)

When it rains heavy here especially during the months of August or September, sometimes there are flash floods. I am afraid of that The whole of Metro Manila has been flooded before back in 2009. We are at the height of the rainy season and typhoons are prevalent.

Agreed. Rains, monsoon, Hivernage in the south can be very destructive.

We are in the typhoon belt that is why I am so wary when rainy months come.

That is good. That she stayed with you. Did she like it? 🙂

Yes she liked it but she got bored later. She likes to garden and she could not plant her favorite veggies here.

Haha! To be expected. But it is good that she has come to visit you. My parents-in-law never came to visit us anywhere. My father-in-law did not like planes. It has always been a regret for my wife.

Our place in the province is about four-hour drive by car and at least 5 to 6 hours by bus. She visits us regularly for her check-up but she likes staying in the province more.
Sad to know that your in-laws don’t visit you. Your place must be far from them.

Plane fright is more like it. It’s all right.

Yes! I saw the bridge.

Thanks Anne. We were so used to a similar one when I was young. It’s a good thing cars could reach our place now. The concrete bridge is wide enough. People use tricycles as their main transport.

You wrote about the old bridge not long ago, and this was what I imagined from your description.

If I had to cross it, I’d be happy I know how to swim.

Haha, once you get used to it, it’s pretty easy without the handrail. I don’t know how to swim 😦

Thank you so much. I’ve been to Cacupangan Cave with classmates when we were still in grade school. The cave ends in another baranggay, that’s how long it is.

Why not? mag-e-enjoy ka sa mga caves dun. Just go to the Municipal Hall first if you get there. It’s next to Alaminos City, about 20 minutes.
