Sometimes I think I am sharing too much in cyberspace.
Probably you would say, “me too”. This thing called blogging has taken up a lot of my time sometimes I wonder if other still read my posts. Are we all too busy to blog, too lazy to comment, too indifferent to click like or just enjoy reading posts from other bloggers? We have those times when the screen in front of us remains a blank for so long while we are thinking of what to share and to blog about. There are times when we all get too enthusiastic to write about the happenings in our lives. Are we sharing too much?
What do you think?
As I have said a long time ago, this blog started as a sort of catharsis for me when I was taken ill almost eight years ago. I needed an outlet to write my thoughts and share my journey. It helped me a lot during those sleepless nights and endless laboratory tests and doctor visits. It is a diary that was published online. I am glad of those friends who still follow me until today, fellow bloggers that I follow too and the new ones who recently found my blogs (yes I have five but not all of them are updated). I am more inclined to see photos of different places and people shared about by other bloggers. I am not fond of selfies though. I’d rather post photos of my garden blooms or my family members.
I take joy in reminiscing, going back to old times and places that made me laugh. Life is sometimes full of angst that we have to bear so I’ll choose to remember the happy times, those blessed days that made me smile and remember things with fondness, the days that laughter and happiness reign in the heart.
So far for Dreams and Escapes, I’ve written 1,955 posts excluding this one. I am growing old with this blog but I like how it is turning out.
My question remains, are we sharing too much?
It depends on the person, Arlene. As you know, I have shared most of my life via the blog. Marriages, divorces, working life, happy times, and bad times. For me, it helps to write everything down. For others, it is an intrusion.
As far as your blogs go, I think you have it just right.
Best wishes, Pete.

I think so sometimes. I’ve pulled back a bit myself and post less personal posts and more book reviews. I had nothing new to say and felt like I was just whining some days so I stopped. That’s just me, though.

Hi Donna, thank you for commenting. I’ve never thought of pulling back a little. I share what I want and need to share here. It’s lovely to meet all of you guys.

My choice has been to always ask myself if I would be willing to share my writings with my grandchildren. That means I avoid the really difficult parts of my past and focus on other things. I also choose not to post pictures of living people. I think as long as we each are aware of our own rules, there is no right or wrong amount to share.

I think it depends on the person, Arlene. We should always remember that what we publish is there for ALL eyes to see. If we’re fine with that, then I don’t see a reason to change our blogging habits. The people who enjoy what we write will find us; the rest will move on. 🙂

“There are always all eyes to see”. I do agree Diana. When we blog we are sharing a part of us in a world we don’t know much about but we are confident that along the way we also share lessons about life.

Yes, and the people we tend to connect with are often of a like mind. Not a very risque or dangerous crowd. 🙂

I feel safer here than at Facebook which is a smorgasbord of posts.

I think posting about our lives in an honest way – warts and all… can help others realise that life isn’t just about the ‘perfection of instagram’… I hope so anyway! x

Good morning Wendy. i like what you said about being honest when we blog. Life is what we make it, people always say and that pretty defines what blogging is all about.

Writing has always been an outlet for me even though I am truly a novice. I decided to go public in an effort to gain perspective on life from others who blog. So far I have connected with some pretty awesome people. I am sure I will one day run out of topics or blog less often, but it seems to be what I need in my life right now.

Writing as an outlet…beautifully said. Thank you so much for leaving lovely words here. By the way, how will I call you?

We each share what needs to be shared for that instance. Only the writer can know this, they decide how much they need to tell… jc

I’ve enjoyed getting to know you via your blog. After a while, a blogger begins to be three-dimensional in my head. I had a shock, though, when I Googled my own name and found how many things came up. It was a stern reminder to be very careful of what I write. I had been freer with comments than in writing my own posts, figuring not many would see them. That was wrong! Whatever personal rules you have for blogging need to be applied to comments.

Hello Anne, it is nice to hear from you again. Thank you, we got to know each other here. Yes, everything that goes there is for every one to see. Sometimes, we are carried away by so many things that we want to share and we blog about them.

I believe it’s up to the person writing to decide how much he/she is comfortable sharing. On my own blog, I’m very honest about my struggles and don’t really filter things out if I’m writing about a bad day or feeling bad on a particular day. I know for some that kind of writing is not something they find interesting enough to read because it might come across that I’m being negative all the time about everything, but I definitely do talk at times about positive things in my life. Personally, I think it’s important for myself to talk about the difficult and painful parts of my experiences at my own pace.
One of the things I’ve tried hard to make an effort to do when reading other people’s blogs is to interact with the blog writer by leaving a comment. It feels fulfilling to write a comment and express something instead of just “liking” the post and moving onto another post. I also like the exchange of ideas and information if the blog writer responds to me. 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts Nat. yes, i agree with you, it all depends on how much you want to share. Some blogger don’t post negative things, some are comfortable with it. Like you, I love exchanging thoughts and comments with fellow bloggers.
