Right after Josef and I trimmed the plants this afternoon, he played some songs which he downloaded on his cellphone. They are an eclectic mix of slow rock, modern jazz and a sprinkling of old songs which I was surprised to listen to. I love the songs of Jason Mraz but I love old songs better. Maybe it has something to do with age. Moonriver is a classic song of old. Yes, he downloaded Moonriver, a version of Andy Williams. I am reminded of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Audrey Hepburn of course. I have that book, a thin and small hardback copy given by a close friend a couple of years ago. I read it now and then to remind me of that story of Holly Golightly. and Paul Varjak ( George Peppard).
Music makes us feel better, right? Victor Hugo once wrote that “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent” I love listening to it. It soothes the mind and the tired and aching muscles relax a little.
Lately, I’ve been lucky to find some Australian authors too, most of them write about history. I am on my 48th book since January 1. Maybe I’ll get to finish the reading challenge earlier than the end of December 2017. I found more memoirs and book of poems plus a little of Psychology. I can’t wait to read them all. Have you ever participated in Goodreads’ reading challenge? I’ve done it for the last three years. I am also updated with my favorite authors’ blog posts. They do write blogs too, mostly about their new books.
When one is inspired with music and books, everything is right with the world. Do you love music too? What’s your favorite song?
Music can enhance a mood, and the ‘wrong’ music can change a mood too. I could never say what my one favourite song was, as that also depends on my mood! 😉
Best wishes, Pete.

I love all sorts of music. Right now I am listening to Leonard Cohen who recently died, but not before releasing a great, contemplative album.

Lovely post Arlene! I haven’t read moonriver, I should add to my list! I thought in doing this challenge, but at the end I did signed. But 48 books, wow! I’ve read 2 and now I’m half of my 3rd. I thought I was doing good 😦 ! And yes, music is wonderful. My favourite change from time to time, right now I don’t have any favourite, must pay more attention to them!

I love music too Elizabeth but I prefer the older songs. Moon River was written by Henri Mancini, Lyrics was by Johnny Mercer. It’s the theme song of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I couldn’t begin to pick a favourite! Depends how I’m feeling. I’ve always loved Simon and Garfunkel and Billy Joel. And I can always listen to Michael Buble, but current favourites are Adele and Ed Sheeran. 🙂 Hope you’re having a good weekend, Arlene.

I guess we go with what we feel sometimes. I prefer quiet and graceful melodies. and yes Simon and Garfunkel too. so with Michael Buble.

48 books so far this year! That’s great, Arlene. I’m a bit jealous. I listen to music when I write, but mostly instrumental. That said, I love anything with great vocals and a folksy feel. 🙂

I have favorites from every period, but right now I’m enjoying Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “Lark Ascending”. The music seems to swoop through the air with abandon.

I completely agree with your post. There’s nothing like playing or listening your own kind of music for healing, inspiration, peace, comfort, love and joy.
