Haha, this is hilarious.
I am presently reading two books by former Sen. Miriam Santiago entitled Stupid Is Forever, her take on politics, love, her life as a senator of the land, her quips on her enemies. and about life itself. She used to be so outspoken, sometimes even sarcastic in front of her colleagues in the Senate but she definitely made sense. She was a top-notch lawyer, an intellectual.
Here are some of the quotes lifted from her two books.
When people say that the art of politics is the art of the possible, they mean the art of speculation, calculation, intrigue, secret deals and pragmatic maneuvering.
I know of a politician who is so windy that he can give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by telephone.
Miss kutsara ka ba? Kasi papalapit ka pa lang napapanganga na ako.
Question: What is the plural form of rice? Answer: Extra rice 🙂
Marriage is when a man and a woman become as one. The trouble starts when they try to decide which one.
We are really, really sick. We are morally sick. We are mentally sick. The higher the position, the higher the mental sickness.
Kung may pangit na nagsabing “Pwede bang manligaw?” Sagutin mo. “Sure basta hindi sa akin.” 🙂
Some jokes are corny of course, they are mostly written in the vernacular. I love her article on weaponizing social media. These two books are what we say, “Miriam na Miriam”. They are a nice change from the usual books that I read.
Great quotes, Arlene! Thanks for getting them out there.
Best wishes, Pete.

This sounds like such an interesting book, Arlene; I like her spunk. I’m sorry I don’t understand a few of these quotes, but I sure like the one about the windy politician. 🙂 I’ve put this on my booklist! Thank you!

We really want to get hold of that book, but it keeps on getting out of stock in NBS. Miriam is awesome! We adore intelligence. 🙂
