It’s been a while.
It’s been raining cats and dogs here for the past days and I only saw the sun showed its face briefly early this morning (for a few minutes actually) then she played hide and seek with the thick clouds never to show up again the whole day. We were alarmed when Marikina River reached almost critical level because the rain dumped so much in thirty minutes causing the river to swell. Marikina is adjacent to our town so they have to open the eight gates of Manggahan floodway which is so near to us. There are pockets of water in some areas until now. Old folks call this “siyam-siyam”, nine days of prolonged rained brought about by the southwest monsoon. Well, it is the rainy season so what can we expect but I am praying hard that flash floods won’t be a problem for us during this wet season.
You wonder what the smell of rain is. It threatens but at the same time the sound of raindrops gently falling on the roof is quite soothing. The drizzle is quite nice for the plants but the downpour makes them swim too much in water. And when it rains, you have so much time in your hands to read. I have just finished my 79th book on Goodreads’ 2016 reading challenge, 18 books in advance. When you are lucky to find a subject quite different from your usual reading genre, you devour it with gusto. I found a treasure in reading The Secret Ways of Perfume. You would think that a scent of a perfume is just that, something you like but we don’t know the complexities of how it is made, you need a detailed study on the combination of scents (the essences of flowers, herbs and spices). There is something that soothes, energizes, inspires. lavender, bergamot, roses…learning the world of perfume creation. How nice!
How was your Sunday?
Sorry to hear about all that rain, Arlene. I hope that you escape any chance of flooding. Does rain have a smell? I think that its smell is what it leaves behind when it has gone. Dust washed away, and fresh smells from grass and plants.
It is midday here, so my Sunday still has a long way to go.
Best wishes, Pete.

According to the book I just read, you have to have that “nose” to smell the rain just like you do with perfumes 🙂 We are doing okay Pete, thanks! Hopefully, this would stop so I can visit my saturated garden.

the sun shined for a bit today and then it was cloudy again and some rain.. nothing to do on a rainy day except to eat, hahaha! yes you’re right, rain indeed has a scent, smelling like grass or plants actually especially if you are surrounded by lots of greens..

You’re right Elizz, sarap kumain pag maulan. I baked chewy oatmeal rainsin cookies over the weekend, cooked pork chicken adobo and ginataang labong. I found some fresh shoots at the wet market, sa Pangasinan adobong labong pa rin tawag nila but it is cooked in coconut cream and lots of green and red pepper. Init init na lang. Isang paketing sopas ayos na.

I do pray it doesn’t rain much more to cause severe flooding. We are just now in drought conditions here, it has rained but only 5 minutes here and then 10 minutes there…no significant amount. It has been like this for about one week and then to add to it we are in the midst of a heat wave. It seems nobody is having good weather at this time.
We had a nice Sunday spent with friends and good fellowship, in air conditioning…good job on your reading challenge!

Hi Patty! It seems that climate all over the world has gone haywire. We see news too that there are also flash floods in some states in the US. It’s still a bit cloudy here but the weather bureau says the monsoon rains will last until next week. some provinces are still flooded. Sorry to hear about the drought there.
Thank you so much, keep safe always!

You are right, now we are getting high winds as we expect a major storm tonight. Thankful that God is in control and a good lesson for us to trust in His timing! Prayers for safety for you and your family.
