Life has been quiet but busy lately. I am taking advantage of the cloudy afternoons and sometimes short-lived spatter of rain to stay in the garden for the past several days. Finally, we were able to clean the side yard outside of unwanted weeds that seemed to grow by leaps and bounds. Maybe it would take another month before we could clean it again.
I pity those poor souls who could never distinguish what is right and proper to share on social media. When you use the power of social media for your own selfish end, it truly becomes ugly. There were these two incidents that have become viral lately on Facebook. A mother of barely a year old child tied her naked son and fed him like a dog and posted several offensive pictures of him which earned the ire of netizens and prompted the Dept. of Social Welfare and Dev. to take custody of the child who will have to undergo psychosocial assessments and evaluate the “crazy” mother if she is really fit to be one or not. According to DSWD Sec. Soliman, this is clearly a case of child abuse under Rep. Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law. No one in her right mind should do this to a child even if the child is her own. I could not bring myself to post pictures, that’s adding insults to injury, so to speak. A few days after that report became viral, there was another one with pictures of another baby with cigarettes in his/her mouth and those around the child were even saying, it was unlit. My goodness, these two incidents clearly speak on the wrong values taught to children. Are good manners and right conduct not important anymore? Social media abuse is one thing and learning how to be responsible in what you share plays a big role in influencing those who can’t clearly distinguish what is right or wrong. Teach children good values which they will carry throughout their lives.

It’s really sad to see those photos..

Yes Cel, it makes me sad that they could do those things to innocent kids.

I am very happy that I have nothing to do with Facebook Arlene. It is corrupting modern life, destroying real communication, lowering standards and values, and changing the concepts of what is acceptable in society.
I fear it will get much worse in years to come, so I am glad that I will not be around to see it slide even further downwards.
Best wishes from England. Pete.

Keep it that way Pete and you won’t get a headache. I have a mind to deactivate my account but when I think of the thousands of people we serve at our Catholic page there, it is worth the effort of visiting and updating the page every day.

Yes, it should lolaWi. You can’t totally blame social media or FB for that matter because in the end,if you were brought up to be a responsible individual, you would think several times before doing things that would hurt your child.
Have a blessed weekend too lolaWi 🙂

I heard of these two incidents. I share your view on responsible use of social media because the freedom on it seems unlimited and unrestricted. However, I thank also the social media because it gives ordinary people opportunity to air their grievances, raise an issue and societal problems for government’s intervention, and create waves of campaigns and information dissemination.

It’s nice to see you here again Joselito. You have a point there, it is so easy now to share and reach out through social media but then each one of us still has the responsibility to watch our language and not to abuse the privilege and freedom we are given us through it. A lot of us no longer know how to discern and reflect on how we share valid grievances and issues. Misuse and abuse…I see lots of them even in comments especially on FB.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts 🙂

Unfortunately, the darkest side of humanity ends up splattered across the world wide web. Social media sites are frequently abused or misused and harm has been perpetrated against others to the point that the victim/target of the nastiness commits suicide or murder. People are so quick to judge people they do not even know and would likely never meet. One thing we humans are very good at is tearing one another apart.
Thankfully, the internet has also seen a surge of “good Samaritans” to counter the evil that lurks behind what they think is anonymity. There is no doubt that Satan is hard at work but we already know how his story ends! Praise God. There is always a prayer on my mind, heart, or lips as there are so many hurting in some way or another. Concentrate on the good and combat the negative in any manner possible.

Yes, social media has brought us so many things that we wouldn’t even think of two decades ago but then as I’ve always said, not everyone is responsible, they use it to their own selfish ends. It is sad really, I hope many people realize that just because they think they are anonymous in cyber space, they have a right do do just what they want regardless of who gets hurt in the process. It’s a good thing we have this friendly site where we could still share something positive and uplifting.
Good morning Tina, thanks for these insightful comments, I love reading them.
