What do you remember every time you think of Cubao? It’s Araneta Center, right? Araneta Center, a 35 hectares commercial area is the heart of Cubao. It’s where you will find the 15,000 seater capacity Araneta Coliseum which is always the center of important events in Manila and the largest in Asia. It serves as a venue for basketball games, boxing, concerts and other variety shows.
Shop, dine, be entertained, there is always something exciting you can find at the Araneta Center. I’ve missed Cubao, the last time we were there was during my son’s 26th birthday last June 2010. We dined at Bellini’s, my favorite Italian restaurant. My daughter and I visited St. Paul’s at Ali Mall to buy copies of the New Way of the Cross which we will use in our Visita Iglesia but I ended up also buying four books, two of which are on my wish list for quite sometime now. I’ve been looking for a copy of The Gentle Art of Blessing (Lessons for Living Your Spirituality in Everyday Life) by Pierre Pradervand since I’ve read a positive review of it and that of The Imitation of Christ by Thomas á Kempis for years. Gosh, I found two lovely books by Henri Nouwen, The Dance of Life (A Spiritual Journey with Henri Nouwen) and The Only Necessary Thing(Living a Prayerful Life). Splurging on books is one such habit that is really hard to break.
Ali Mall has undergone a facelift. It now has a connecting walkway going to SM Shoemart. My daughter and I were in a quandary where to eat merienda, a choice between French Baker and Dulcinea. We ended up buying raisin bonnets at French Baker. The lure of baked bread and its heavenly smell is something I just could not resist. Dulcinea reminds me of the luscious and sinful cream puff. We ordered Chorizo Pasta With Chicken Fingers for me , Galantina in Flamenca Sauce With Fish Fillet for Nissa and a helping of their specialty, hot Churros Con Chocolat. There goes my diet, going down the drain, haha!
It was the best afternoon spent girl bonding or shall I say a lovely mother-daughter escapades?
