IMGP2497Sunday is always a family day for us except when my two kids have work to do or have other plans to attend to.  Today is hubby’s birthday and we decided to have a quiet celebration, just the four of us, no frills but just spending the day in each other’s company.  We heard and offered thanksgiving mass at the St. Jude Thaddeus Parish then visited St. Padre Pio Center in Libis, QC.  I was awed by the Shrine of Padre Pio, the mass there was so solemn and the place is very, very beautiful.  We visited the prayer room after the mass, made our own individual petitions then lighted candles later.

Eastwood City is very near the place so we spent lunch at Dencio’s ordering a set menu of Sizzling Bangus Belly, Chicken Barbeque, Chop Suey, Pork Sisig and Kare-kare.  It’s supposed to be for five so we had some of the left-overs taken home. I enjoyed the Sizzling bangus but I was so afraid to touch the Pork Sisig because it was oily.  Since my surgery, I’ve been very careful with what I eat.  Dencio’s fare is really  quite good.  You don’t have to wait too long to be served and the food was served hot. There lies the difference in some other restaurants IMGP2479IMGP2482IMGP2484IMGP2491 where sometimes it is so obvious that they just reheat the food in a microwave.

I haven’t been to Sugar House for a long, long time so I suggested that we order our dessert there.  We ordered a small Cashew Toffee Cake and told the hubby to pretend blowing a candle for prosperity and good luck.  Hmm…so yummy!  Another take out, I guess, to savor with hot green tea.  I just could not resist the pull of their French Apple pie so I ordered a slice, quite a bit pricey though at P125.00.  Anyway, my daughter says it taste so good.  I miss those newly baked apple piesIMGP2494 they sell at S & R. We haven’t been baking for quite a while now but one of these days, we’ll have to.  My daughter says, “sayang naman yung pinagaralan natin kay Ernest” at Sylvia Reynoso Gala’s cooking school. Oh well, cost of baking needs nowadays are quite so high that sometimes, it is more practical to just buy them, ready to eat and all.

The day would not be complete without browsing at a bookstore so browsed we did. My daughter bought Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. It’s an amazing read.  My son is so fond of comic books so he bought two, Calvin and Hobbes’ Sunday Pages and Yukon Ho. Cost of books nowadays are sky high but nothing beats a good read.  I am glad that both of them are into reading, only that my son prefers Science books and general information.

I was quite fascinated by the play of light at the parking lot.  The sun was shining so the round slats on the roof were reflected on the parked cars making them seem like shining stars at night.  Whoever thought of it was so creative.

A little bit of window shopping ended our day.
