Last week, I wrote to Francis J. Kong and asked permission to link his site to my blogs. Oh boy, he answered my email. I blogged about him a few days ago, Meet Francis J. Kong, My Idol.
I just have to buy his book, The Early Bird Catches the Worm But the Second Mouse Gets the Cheese. And so this afternoon, we all went to Power Books. A slim volume at 131 pages but packed with words of wisdom and lovely anecdotes that you can’t simply put down. It’s a bit pricey though at P410.00. It’s a Mother’s Day gift to myself, haha, so the price is justified. He has published several other books like Only the Real Matters, Life’s Work, 3 Little Words, Just When You think You Can’t Do It…Do It, Why Don’t You Grow Up Dad?, and the four-volume, One Day At A Time. I took a glimpse of them all, after all, reading is free at Power Books, you can even finish one without buying it. How cool is that? And to give you a glimpse of what is on the cover, I am quoting them here.
Remember this:
If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
if you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you
When through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment
if you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help
if you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
Then, you are almost as good as your dog!
P.S. Yes, there certainly are a lot of things a dog can do without. And so can you!
HI Ms. Arlene,
I’ve also been touched by Mr. Kong’s inspirational quotes..And always been laughing at his snide remarks about the life we have. If only this book could have been up for downlloading …I’ll be the first to grab it!
Hope this comes true 🙂
Sincerely,
Lui

all of his books can be found at Powerbooks in Megamall. sometimes, i do catch myself browsing there. reading his books is like reading the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, the thing is you can relate because he writes about everyday life here in our country and somehow mix it with business matters at hand.
thanks for the visit Lui!

last time i visited powerbooks at the moa branch, they do not allow sitting on the floor and you can only count a handful of the couch chair, also the trinoma branch has a very limited number of seats, i guess i will have to replace my cane with the kind whcih has a seat on it until such time that i can already walk on my own two feet.

I have a couple of books by John Maxwell and Zig Ziglar but what inspires me to read Francis Kong is his style of writing, easy to understand and tailored I think for us, Filipinos.
My favorite is Bestsellers at Robinson’s Galleria. Haven’t tried other branches of NBS except the ones near our place.

I also love Mr. Francis J. Kong. 🙂
I love to read all his articles and books. I first got interested in him after he was asked to be a guest speaker in our school. Then I read his book The Early Bird Catches the Worm but the Second Mouse gets the Cheese, and I enjoyed it so much that it caused me to buy his other books, the 4 vol .One day at a Time which I read a topic a day last 2009. What book of him will you advise me to read next? any idea?
For me he is the best inspirational speaker I know 🙂
How I wish I have a father like him. That would be so great!

That dog punchline gave me a good laugh. Jesus pointed to the birds and the flowers as examples of why we don ‘ t need to and should not worry: If God cares about the beautiful flowers that are so quickly gone and the tiniest bird how much more will He not care for you?
