He is the new Archbishop of Manila. And here is his status update on Facebook:
“His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI appointed me, a humble servant , to succeed His Eminence Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales to the Metropolitan See of Manila. I face this heavy responsibility with much trepidation. Leaving the Diocese of Imus, my beloved home, at the threshold of its Golden Jubilee is not easy. But faith in the gracious Lord and love of the Church give me strength. I know that I would find much good will and zeal for mission in the clergy, religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Manila. In our openness to the Holy Spirit, we could render a joyful and robust witness to Jesus Christ, all for the glory of the Father and the good of the Church and of society, especially of the poor. I entrust the Archdiocese of Manila and my ministry to the loving care of our Lady, Mary Immaculate.”

Congratulations Archbishop Tagle. We are one with you in prayers. I haven’t had any personal encounter with him but I admire him a lot. I always look forward to Kape’t Pandasal and The Word Exposed. He is helping a lot of people through his TV programs.
Thank you Archbishop!

I came across your blog while browsing the web for articles about Dr Samuel D. Ang. You’re right. He’s a very kind doctor and a very specialized one. He successfully performed major surgery (Whipple’s procedure) on my mom last Nov 25, 2010 to remove a pancreatic tumor. We were fortunate to come to Chinese General Hospital for her treatment, as an initial consultation at another hospital offered no hope for a curative approach to her condition. I was to learn later that he had extensive training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, performing similar procedures, and that in the Philippines he has the most extensive experience in this kind of procedure.
It was really a big surgery, even for a much younger person, and the mere fact that she survived it was a miracle. It’s almost a year now after the surgery and after the 8 cycles of oral chemo she’s feeling stronger now.
Incidentally, I am from Imus, the diocese from which Archbishop-elect Chito comes from. The singing bishop, the YouTube bishop, using the power of media for evangelization and spreading of good values, showing great concern for the marginalized.
We would really miss him in Imus. In the past ten years that he has been bishop, the Diocese has been rejuvenated, especially now that in a month’s time we will be celebrating the Golden Jubilee.
Thank you Leo for your warm feedback. Yes, Dr. Samuel Ang is the best doctor there is. I am glad to know that your mom came out of her surgery and oral chemotherapy treatment with flying colors. Thank God for that. I underwent six cycles of chemo at the Benavidez Cancer Institute in UST and took chemo tablets at the same time.
I am afraid, your loss is Manila’s gain. Come to think of it, many people would benefit more on his being elected as Archbishop of Manila. Congratulations on your Golden Jubilee.
